Incorrect overlap?

Ivan

Hi. I was trying out on the fly map planner with new tablet teclast t50 plus, on my dji mini 3, i have put front and side overlap on 80%. I got this. I also saw that drone dash is not updating like it should (drone speed and distance), it "lags", numbers stutter for a second, then 2 secons working normally, then again few seconds stutter... Which would explain why pictures are not in order... but why would that happen? When i was trying out normal mission planner that i planned on pc it was working better than my phone, but when flying and using "on the fly" this happenned. Everything else is working great, drone camera shows and updates great on tablet. Could it be cause of usb cable connecting tablet with drone controller or what else could it be?

Hi Ivan. It’s more than likely the T50 device. That’s is what they call a low cost budget device with low benchmarks. Dronelink needs a power device to work well and the mapping component is a bit more demanding than other components. If it’s lagging as you say it sounds like the device is struggling to process fast enough. If the device cannot process the photo quick enough then it cannot start the next capture until the previous photo was finished. So of it can’t and is needing to catch up the spacing will be off. If you are using a top quality SD card like a Sandsik Extreme or similar V30 card which can read and write fast then I’d say it’s the device. Do you have another device to try ?

Here is the DL requirements which explains it is a resource intense app. https://support.dronelink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025829933-What-are-the-system-requirements-Supported-drones-and-devices

SD kard is Lexar V30, tested speed and its 45mb/s writing speed (that would be 9-10 pictures saved in 1 second).

I have Redmi note 13 phone and mission execution works good on it, pictures are overlapping like it should.

But thing that is strange to me... I have one mission that i made on web app, when i open it on my phone, it lags hard and after some click i have to wait few seconds to change that, but when i open same mission on tablet, edit mission works flawlessly.. And everything else works without any lag, everything works better on thablet than on phoneThat is why i didnt suspect tablet performance...

I will try out using phone with this cable and check if it still have same problem

Which browser are you using ? There can be many reason why there is lagging with the Web app.

I am using mission edit in dronelink app, not the browser. I tried to fly again with tablet, but with different cable and it was much much better!

Is there any way to get on map some icon where was picture taken? I used 3dsurvey on previous drone and it had put icon over mission plan where was picture taken, so i knew that it took it everywhere...

If you want to see the estimate of where the photo captures will be taken in any plan just run the mission preview and go to the three dots at top and you will see the option to “toggle capture markers.” Once the mission has been flown you can go to the flown missions tab in the Web app and select that mission which will show where the captures were actually taken.

Following on from Mike's post above, if you want to get really clever, and have the appropriate software(Dronelink, Airdata, WebODM), it's possible to export various files and overlay them in qgis, so that you can see the planned flight, the actual flight path, planned photo placement, and actual photo placement
