Phone compatibility
Looking for a cheap option to use with my dji mini 3 and I’m used to Apple but need Android. I was wondering if the Moto g play 32gb is compatible and if so how well it performs

Hi Anthony Powers, if you're flying mini2 you can use an I phone if you wish the only mini drone you need Android for is the mini 3 series, I'm not sure about the Moto G, have a look and see if it's on this sheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JPhn9yKVaKiyd_k0JP8ZI7_fMJjjJcE8ybcCW93SCYw/edit?gid=0#gid=0 also for more info on device compatibility have a read of this FAQ https://support.dronelink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025829933-What-are-the-system-requirements-Supported-drones-and-devices, hope this helps
What model Apple device do you have ?
iPhone 13 mini but dji stopped supporting after mini 2 sadly.
What drone are you flying
Sorry meant to say mini 3 just realized my typo
Yep, Mini 2 would have worked with the iPhone 13. Since we now know it’s the Mini 3 then the moto g 8 is on that DL list as a low performance device but it may depend on exactly which model. I’d invest more into a better top tier device like a Samsung. I will always spend more for a top tier quality device rather than a cheaper budget device so I don’t need to constantly upgrade every year or two. It will obviously be more but well worth the investment. Otherwise you may have a bad user experience when using the DL app. That DL spreadsheet has some top quality devices listed on it. Also some pilots listed many of those devices with problems but that was due to the very long DJI debacle with Mini 3’s so they should work as far as performance. The Samsung S21’s - S23’s are a good device with very good benchmarks. Pay more, get more. Good luck.
With it being the mini 3 there are warnings on the Samsung options as you mentioned does this make it more possible for fly aways and similar if the app crashes and are there better options as not many on the list mention the mini 3. Sorry for all the questions new to the technical side of these drones I usually repair electrical and mechanical parts of them decided to finally get my own 😂
I understand your concerns. No matter what device you use it will not make your drone fly away regardless of what app you use. The control of the drone is between the drone and controller. Basically the DL software just takes control of the drones flight controller to fly it in real time just as if you were flying it manually with the sticks. Unfortunately all those Mini 3 negative comments don’t help to decide. Even if the app did close down or crash as they say then all that would happen is the mission would stop because there would be no commands being sent to the flight controller. At this time it will just hover and you would take manual control. The drones automatic RTH will trigger on a low battery as well and return to land at the recorded home-point/ take-off location just like when using the DJI Fly app. These drones which use Satellites are almost fool proof. DL stands behind their product. In about 3-1/2 years of using the DL app I haven’t seen a case where the app crashed a drone and with about 40 hours of fights on my MA2 using DL I’ve never had an issue where it took off, failed to RTH or crash into something. A lot of help for the app so I’d suggest looking through a good amount of the help articles. I attaching just a few links to get you started. Enjoy.
