Gimbal not rotated -90° - Air 2S Mapping

Daniel G

I have being trying to run a map mission but when I run the mission it travels, then rotates the camera but it won't take the shot and instead returns: Gimbal Orientation Failed Gimbal Orientation | Pitch -90° | Gimbal Not Rotated Same problem already reported here: https://support.dronelink.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/5542006460947-Gimbal-error-and-approach-problems I already tried with v4.1.0 and also v4.3.1 ( from the playstore (232) and from the beta channel (2232)) none of them works. At that time it was stated that we need v3.3.2 however I don't have that version and probably it won't login since it's an old app.

I also tried to run the mission on an iPhone with version v4.3.1 with the same result. I already calibrated gimbal, compass, IMU with DJI assistant 2 software and no workaround available.

    Simple misión:

You are using the latest firmware ? If so I’d do a refresh on both controller and drone with DJI Assistant 2 (commercial drones series) software. There have been a lot of threads regarding this issue for some time but I believe it was corrected.

Already reflashed and tried many many things... After checking on the forum Air 2S might not be very popular. The newest questions related to it sometimes don't even have the drone. Not a solved issue. In the post I shared it said v4.0 was not working and they had to use v3.3.2 (with firmware 02.04.2150). But newer versions of the app like v4.3.1 still not working and I can't use v3.3.2.

Ok Folks now it is working. The problem was the remote firmware, I hadn't updated it (I never imagined that it was related). I confirm Air 2S working with this setup:

    DJI Air 2S - 02.04.2190
    Remote - 04.12.0100
    DroneLink - 4.31 (232)
    DjiFly 1.9.0

    Android 12 AOSP without Gapps

And one final comment: please consider stop saying "Update to last firmware" in each post. The users which are in 'the last firmware' currently cannot even launch the drone: https://support.dronelink.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/10831833502611-Need-Update-for-Air-2S-Firmware

And they cannot rollback so no fix for them but to wait. In the other hand please consider keeping support for 02.04.2190 firmware since it is the last one which can be rolled back (and used with other mods) and it works just great with the app.

That’s why I stated to update both. As far as DL saying update to latest firmware, the A2S has had a lot of issue especially regarding gimbal. The majority of time that’s the issue so that’s why DL says to update which fixes the issues. It’s is a help forum and the usual suspect. Good to hear you updated and fixed it. Enjoy….

Also there are ways to roll back the firmware. It’s up to the pilot to find and decide if they want to use a third party app to do it. Some don’t like doing that.

Goal. I am trying to have Dronelink (specifically mapping but I am running into issues with all of them) work with my Mavic Air 2S without updating the firmware on my drone.

    Errors Observed

    • Initially, DJI Encoder issue was the error message received.
    • Now the only error I observe is "Gimbal Orientation Failed" with some troubleshooting instructions. It is important to note, that at all points, the gimbal can be instructed to pitch up and down, but it will always read a null "--" value.

    Assumptions and Baseline Data

    • S22 Ultra - SM-S908W and on One UI 5.0 / Android 13
    • Mavic Air 2S - Firmware 02.04.2040 (note, upgrading this to a newer version is not an option).
    • DJI Fly - v.1.7.0 (not opposed to upgrading but also choosing not to).
    • Dronelink - Currently on the Hobbyist Elite plan - v4.4.1

I recognize there has been a lot of socialization regarding updating, but am seeing if there has been any new developments in that regard. Thank you kindly.

    DjiFly 1.9.0

That has to be the strangest fix I've heard. Time to check my remote...

I read you are using Firmware 02.04.2040 I don't know if it can work with it. The least firmware I confirm that works is 02.04.2150. However update your remote in any case and please inform your findings.

DJI RC231 (without screen) cannot be updated through DJI Fly app; no option is available. It is not the DJI RC with the screen that I am in possession of.

May need to refund Dronelink if I cannot get to work =\

How come it isn't an option, Javin Lau

In my case because I don't want to lose the roll back feature to use the drone with other mods. That's why I asked to not lose support for 02.04.2190 firmware

Hey Martin, I think Daniel says it best. Losing roll back feature and certain mods are non-negotiable for me.

Nothing against anyone. I'm just trying to have my cake and eat it too.
