Gimbal error and approach problems
Hi. I use 2 x Mavic 2 pro drones quite extensively for mapping missions. From the start of this week, I suddenly get issues when both drones need to start the mapping sequence and the gimbal must tilt to -90 degrees. First it struggles to get aligned in the right position to start mapping. And when the gimbal should tilt to -90 degrees. It stutters a few times, tilting only a little at a time, and then gives the gimbal error. After a restart and retry its tilting stutters along until it reaches -90 degrees and then continues with the mapping perfectly. It however wastes a lot of time and precious battery life with the stuttering to -90 degrees tilt. What is the problem. I am using a Samsung s9 as well as a new oppo android phone. Same problem with both drones, controllers, and phones.

I have seen this same issue with Mavic 2 Zooms as well. I did the DJI firmware update yesterday, and it seemed to help initially. I also had a gimbal error mid flight. I was flying a way point mission and the gimbal was oriented at -90 degrees and shouldn't have moved from one waypoint to the next. Support here is a link to my mission where it errored mid flight. https://app.dronelink.com/crop-quest-internal-flights/mission/U19J9ekB24NeE0xRbz1p
I've used both an android and iOS devices on multiple Mavic 2 Zooms and have had the gimbal orientation on all.

Typical plan that is not working. Gimbal stutters and gives me the following error message. After retrying a few times it eventually gets to -90 degrees and starts with the mapping.
We are already investigating this issue.
Can you confirm that v3.3.2 fixes the issue (available in beta)?
Jim McAndrew does this problem affects every air2s when using mapping?
Cant test it with my own air2s, last 2 weeks always raining and windy.
Are you on 3.3.2?
Yes. Correct. I am on 3.3.2

The gimbal may need to be calibrated. Try auto calibrate first. If still not straight then set camera manually to be straight. My MA2 gimbal was always off about 2° to one side so I manually set it. Not much but sometimes it can be worse. It may be something else but it’s Just a thought.
There is a very old DJI bug that seems to have resurfaced. We had a hack to fix it but DJI changed something that invalidated the hack, and 3.3.2 has an updated version of the hack that worked for me all day yesterday.
Jim,
One of my counterparts tested for me today. He got a 4.0 version in Test Flight. I've included a link to the flight below. First 2 engagments did not move the gimbal at all. 3rd engagement it finally worked.

You have to be on 3.3.2
Followed the instructions on this link. Only had v4.0 available to accept. Do I need to do something different to access the 3.3.2 version?

Tested again extensively. V3.3.2 works well now with my Oppo Reno 7 and Mavic 2 Pro. Thank you.
