Dronelink with the DJI RC PRO

Nelvick Berrios

With the new firmware for the DJI RC PRO controller I installed successfully Dronelink beta in order to fly my Mavic Air 2S with the controller but when I open dronelink I have a message about google services are not running and dronlink will not run. However i can close the message and dronelink open and i am able to connect to my account but the mavic air 2S does not connect to dronelink. It connect to the fly app however.

Thanks Jim. Is anyway to install the google services in the RC Pro that you know?

Installing Google Play services can be done in the same way as the OG smart controller (instructions), but that isn't the problem. The DJI SDK doesn't support the RC Pro yet.

Hi Jim, just a heads up - and yes, not expecting it work as the DJI SDK is not there yet, but I wanted to advise that even the OG instructions for the legacy Smart Controller don't work on the RC Pro.  I have been trying for days and getting Google Play Services and the Store on device and running are a miss.  ; )  DJI doing their usual high quality work.  : )

Zeus!!!  Excellent and good to see you are a fellow Dronelink user!  I love this app and my drone experience would not be complete without Dronelink.

Ok, here is the challenge - first one to get Google Play services and store working on the RC Pro wins the internet.  : )

I made the mistake of putting PureAPK on my RC Pro....and then I trusted the auto-update and it updated the gboard app.  Really broke the RC Pro for a little while.  : )

So far, there is no way I can tell to get Google stuff working on the RC Pro.  (yet)

I am still trying the same. I need to try to enable developer mode and see if I can do something.

I don’t understand. If the DJI SDK doesn’t support it, why even try?

Well Jim, I like to get the Google store on the device so I can easily install and maintain other apps as well. And also because someday it will support it. Eternal optimist here. And also, now I just enjoy the challenge.

We have never been able to actually run the Google Play store, even on the OG SC, it just has to be installed so some key google services get installed in the background.

I was able to run Google Play (services) in the old SC by using google installer 2.0 but does not work in the new RC Pro.

I appreciate how eager you guys are, but I am not spending any more time on this until DJI actually adds support for this device. If it's anything like the OG SC, I would recommend selling it and moving on with your life.

That is what I did. Once I loaded the last version of Dronelink and I have seen the message that says your device is too slow to run Dronelink and may have issues I sold it. :-)

I have now the RC Pro, Ipad Mini, Ipad Pro, and a Galaxie phone to run Dronelink since the SDK for IOS is not ready yet for the Mavic Air 2S. I may get a Tripletek 8 tablet.

Jim, I am kind of concerned about this post. This person says DJI will not support mobile SDK on the Mavic 3. I am not if this is right or not but if is true is bad news for everybody.

Jim McAndrew - I agree.  For the most part, the RC Pro since it came with the Cine is pretty much just shelved for me.  I use the standard controller with my M3's and an Android Tablet that features Dronelink.  : )

Back in the Smart Controller days I was able to get the Google store on there, but had to use some sketchy Chinese software to do so.  Needless to say, I did not trust that controller with passwords to other services.

Well, crap! This SDK thing never occurred to me when I bought my RC Pro. I just got it Saturday and was setting it up today. If they wait to update the SDK for the RC Pro when they do the M3, it'll be forever. Dang it!

Yep.  Terry - this explains why Jim is exhausted with talking about DJI's shitty approach to their software.  : ). DJI is really not on top of it.

What's a good (proven) Android tablet to fly my A2s with Dronelink? I'll drive down to Best Buy and get one and just be done with it.

Well, it has it's pro's and cons, but check out Tripltek online.  I have the version 8.  It's super bright, and the battery is crazy.  Lots of videos about it on Youtube.

Okay! RC Pro in the box for return, TriplTek 8 Pro on order. They sure do make it hard to settle in on a workflow. Thanks, Tony.

The M3 still not supported yet by Dronelink yet (due to lack of an SDK by DJI), so really just be aware that no matter the control device yet, DJI has to be ready.  I use my Tripltek and Dronelink with Air2S, M2Zoom, and soon in the future M2Pro.  Hopefully Mavic 3 but not counting on that till later in 2022 if I am lucky.
