Success!!!

Andrew Busst

I'm very happy. Today is the first day I have moved out of my urban environment to a paddock about 1km away with no surrounding houses or buildings at all. In my current location testing from home with the Mavic Mini and Samsung S9 I have had pretty unreliable results from Dronelink which I can now only put down to wifi interference.

So this morning in my "interference free" environment I tested...

  • A destination plan
  • A path
  • A path with POI
  • An orbit
  • A map!
  • An On The Fly 360 Panorama
  • An On The Fly Dronie

I am so pleased to say without exception they all executed flawlessly. There was a moment on one leg of a destination plan that I thought the drone paused but then when I got back home I realized I had added a waypoint halfway down the leg so it had done exactly what I had told it to do.

It was quite a windy day and I did have a little bit of jerkiness so just as a test I googled stabilisation and for free you can drop the footage into Da Vinci Resolve and get some really smooth video with things like Orbit or POI missions which I tried and am really happy with.

So happy days, most of my anticipated need for DL will be in more remote areas with no wifi so for the Mini this is a great result. I must say using a drone for almost a year as dedicated hand control drone and then being able to push a button and watch it run a map mission all by itself is pretty satisfying!

So..... well done Dronelink and the team! (now just to sort out a solution to those disconnects in urban environments... :-)

I am relatively new to flying a drone, about six months, and am a completely new to using Drone link or any other type of service.  I too am flying the Mini and using an S9 phone.  I can create a very basic mission but when I come to executing it, nothing.  All the tutorials I have watched talk about creating the mission and just seem to jump from creating to flying.  I am having a problem with that part. I just got through working 13 hours and I am a little tired but I decided to attack the issue again.  As I was working on the problem I noticed a little cloud icon in the program and then I remembered hearing "The program is a cloud based program.".  I do not have a cloud program, so I am guessing that is what is preventing me from executing.  The program offers and Amazon cloud program and I signed up but still am having issues with that program, it's asking for the entry of numbers that I have no idea where to get them. Can anyone give me some guidance?  Can any cloud service be used?

I am not sure what you mean by "when it comes to executing, nothing". Have you downloaded the native app and logged in?

The cloud icon is for a data upload feature after you fly.

I watched all videos up to PT3E04 - I am good all the way up to when Eric says he is going to his I pad (I am using an S9) and he says to click on the Dronelink icon.  He gets a white box with 3 options, Personal acct., Dronelink team and Drone link ambassadors.  When I do it I open to a google earth picture that quickly switches automatically to the "New Repository" page.  He clicks on the middle Dronelink icon and ends up on a page that says he has 52 plans available he then clicks on the top mission "load Plan" button.  I do not have that option. I can click on a mission and it shows it to me and I can review it but I have no option to load plan.  That is what I meant when it comes to executing a mission I have nothing, no ability to do it.  I have both the Mini and the controller on.  What am I missing?

You need to install the native app.

Are you talking about the app-prod-arm64-v8a-release.apk file that I downloaded?  I downloaded it the first day I signed up and then again when you suggested. I downloaded this to my Samsung S9 but it will not work on my desktop computer.  For the desktop I have to go through the web. I created a mission on my desktop and then used it on my phone and also created a mission on my phone and no luck either way.

I just installed the app again and chose to open after it installed and it worked, but when I used my shortcut to open it no go.  I uninstalled the whole program, re-installed, set up a new shortcut and it worked.  The initial install must have been bad for some reason.  Well I will have to try it out tomorrow.  Thanks for insisting I had to install the native app.

Well I guess I was a little too optimistic because now I can load a mission but it says disconnected and will not play the mission.  I seem to recall others had the same problem and concluded DJI Fly had to be shut down. Fly was already shut down so I do not think that is it.  I'll try looking through forums.

I searched the posts and found where you said in rare situations you might have to disconnect the device from the controller and reconnect.  That did it but then I rcvd. msg. something like, not in area. I went back to the mission and removed specific area (I was though in the right spot because it is my deck) but anyway, SUCCESS.  I flew my first very simple mission, I will say though I was crawling out of my skin having such little control as hitting the RTH button.  Thanks for your help.
