Add ability to import basemap from drone mission

Rob Schmidt

The base maps currently available for the area I'm mapping show undeveloped areas.  So building drone missions are challenging because you're flying blind.  I've created new maps using WebODM and would like to import those to build updated missions where I can see the current features in the area I just mapped.  That way I can improve my mission accuracy because I can see where buildings and trees are today.  Not just the way it looked years ago.

    Hi Rob Schmidt, seeing that you've created new maps in WebODM, you might find these videos useful:

    Using a combination of these is how I plan some of my missions

    Thanks Martin Reading, I was able to take my WebODM Orthomaps and import them into Google Earth Pro to see the updated maps and then use the Create Poly tool to draw around the features like buildings, driveways, and tree lines that are important as references to building a good mission in Dronelink.

    Thank you Jim McAndrew!  I tried to make sure this wasn't a repost and searched for duplicates.  Sorry I didn't find the other one.

    When importing the .KMZ from Google Earth Pro into Dronelink I have various options for;

    • Do Not Import
    • Waypoints
    • Map
    • Linear Map
    • Orbit
    • Photos
    • Panos
    • Facade
    • Checkpoint

    All of these seem to be specific to perform mission actions.  Is there any way to just import them as polys in Dronelink to be overlayed over whatever base map is being used?

    I guess another approach would be to build the mission activities within Google Earth Pro and export the .KMZ to do one of the mission activities for the points contained inside of the file.
