Mini 3 pro beta - drone can’t return to mission path

Sylvino

Hi all! I’m not sure exactly how to report feedback to developers so I’ll just post a quick review here!

I’ve tried using Dronelink for the first time on my mini 3 pro using a Fire HD 10 tablet. My map mission was estimated to be around 6.5 minutes long.

It got thru 3/4 of the mission without a hitch but then the mission kept aborting because the drone would drift off the path. I’ve tried several times resuming the mission - the drone would try to return to the last known Image point and start from there but would always “drift off course”

After several attempts to resume the mission  the drone couldn’t seem to find its place in order to resume the mission. Looking on the tablets screen and the blue flight path the drone couldn’t find where to go.

Finally the app crashed completely and shut itself down. It took a few minutes to re connect to the drone via the Dronelink app (this scared me as I lost sight of the drone at this point is it kinda just shot off course trying to resume the mission).

I was finally able to reconnect to the drone and I manually flew the drone back.

I’m using the RC-N1 controller.

Check the link. Tons of help articles you can look through which may help as well. Usually when you get Drone too far off course it’s the Max speed setting  set to high. If the speed is too high and the drone cannot keep up on the path where it should be it will fall behind and fail. With smaller drones especially like a Mini any fair headwinds or even cross winds can push it off course. What was max speed set to ?  Do you know the actual wind speed during the flight or at least an approximation. Even 10 mph or so wind speed can be an issue.

I’ll pm the link to you :)

EDIT: I’m not sure if I’m able to send pm I can’t seem to figure it out… only reason I don’t want to share link here is it contains my full name.

    Mike:

My max speed was set to 12mph

The wind at ground level was well below 10m/s

It might have been at ground level, but at altitude it can be gusting a lot more

You can easily change your profile name and/or account name and save then share. You can change it back when you want. I understand about not wanting to give out your full name but I believe no one really cares. Your choice. 10 m/s is about 22 mph at ground level so even if it is close to that at higher altitude that is a lot for any drone especially any Mini. Try about 8 mph or fly in lower winds and see if it works. Enjoy.

I changed the name but when I hit share and copy link it still displays my full name. I wonder if it’s using the name I created flight plan with and does not update with changed name?

I’m a bit confused on the way you want to send it. If you just share a mission here it will only send the plan, no personal information. Send as viewer only and we can copy it. Check the link on how to share.

Did you set your maximum flight distance in the DJI Fly app?
I ran into exactly the same issue, and then I noticed that my mission was going over the 1KM boundary, which I set in the DJI Fly app. After increasing everything worked fine.

The DJI Fly App is installed on my tablet, however I never set it up/connected my drone to it. I made sure to force stop it as well before starting the Dronelink app.

“No plan showing on that link“

    Link has been updated sorry!

Map is basic and I see no issues. I’d suggest trying the recommendations above. 😃

Sylvino, that's a wide open space, and with the wind as strong as you said it was at ground level 10 M/S (22 MPH), at 180 feet that could be topping 13 M/S (30 MPH) which the mini 3 will struggle to hold a course in, I would suspect that you were getting high wind warnings, I know I would have with my mini 2 (I've actually managed to complete a map in winds like this but it was hard work)
