Any tips for organizing Missions?

Tim B

Finally getting into flying more Missions with DL and wondering how users out there with dozens/hundreds of saved Missions keep things organized? Nowhere near that point myself but already looking for better ways to keep track of it all.

After many years of meticulous organization of files & folders in Widows, I'm struggling a bit with the hierarchy of how missions appear in DL. Personally, and it may just be me, the structure of "Today, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, Older" is hard to get used to.

Of course you can click to show just Plans, Repositories, and Missions as well as use the Search feature and that helps a lot. And granted it's a different ecosystem than something like Windows file/folder/image names so perhaps with some insight as to how others keep it all organized, this old dog can learn some new tricks.

I use a variety of things.

The primary thing I use to keep things organized is repositories.  I have different ones set up for each major client, and also ones for testing and training.

One advantage to repositories is that if you drill into a repository the map updates to only show missions in that repository, which cleans things up nicely.

You can move things around like this https://youtu.be/Z5fiQOn7fpQ

You can also clean up your missions themselves if you have multi component missions by naming things https://youtu.be/0gJYpCozT70

I use a very similar approach to Barry Houldsworth, all my repositories are grouped by areas where I'm going to be flying, so  here in the UK, that's mainly by Counties, I've got both public and private versions of some of these, like my testing repositories where i try out ideas for missions or components in the private repository, and then copy a version to the public repository when I'm happy with it, or want to pick a few brains on here to tweak things.

I also keep a few regularly used components/lists on the clip board for easy access

I made a video on how to organize your Repos. I have 33 Repos based on the different locations of plans. Makes it much easier to have the Repos which your going to use for a specific area at the top of list in the Native app. Also the plans within the Repo can be moved to the top of list for easy access. Maybe this will help a bit. Whenever you copy, move or acces a shared plan and copy to a Repo it moves that Repo to the top. I always organize my plans and Repos before going out to fly so they are all at top.

Thanks for refreshing my memory. I had watched those videos some time ago but viewing again now that I have more "clutter" will help with overall organization.

Thanks guys. You both pointed out similar strategies for organizing things and given that's the way DL works, I will be able to use that to my advantage. Very helpful.

Happy days are here again. Lol… 2-1/2 years using DL and I’m always learning from others as well. DL is a very powerful system and almost impossible to know everything. Unless your Jim. 🤪

Honestly I've probably forgotten half of the things I've done.

On the plus side however, that likely includes both hits as well as misses. ;-)
