Ascending During A WayPoint Mission

Kgaudineer

Is it possible to have the drone ascend straight up during a waypoint mission?   I have a few missions where I have the drone climb between 2 waypoints but these waypoints have some distance between them.   In this situation I would like to have the drone ascend straight up because there is a wall in my path.  I was thinking I could stack one waypoint on top of another to accomplish this however, I don't think that is the correct way to do that.  Or should I just make multiple missions to accomplish this?

If you've got an Elite or business plan you could set a restriction zone in front of the wall with it set to vertical, so that once the drone comes to the zone it will ascend vertically to the top of the zone, fly horizontally till it clears the zone, then descend vertically to continue on the mission, see the screenshot and link to mission below

It would be better to use a Check Point (destination) component for that situation. This way it will ascend up to the set altitude before moving forward. Then once at altitude you can add another path and continue. Paths cannot actually perform completely vertical, (straight up) climbs but depending on the plan and settings it can get fairly close if enough distance apart. Stacking two waypoints on top of each other won’t actually perform a vertical climb. If you try it and do a 3D preview you will see it continues forward as climbing then backtracks to the next waypoint while continuing to climb. Just better to use a Check Point and safer for your situation. Hope this helps.

This is where new features are expected to manage properly  this kind of situations. Some for vertical orbits. Hope DL will propose those new components.

Thanks for all of the responses.  The help has been very valuable.  I do have an 'Elite' account and have my setting set to expert.  Martin Reading  your suggestion is working the best.  You seemed to nail my dilemma straight on.  I am flying missions around and over a new construction area and now the building and floors are rising up higher than my path.   Using your suggestion  I can continue to use the same path but now I can rise above the building footprint and then descend once cleared and continue my path.  This method is actually making for some interesting video because I have several missions where I could fly straight across and now, as the progress is picking up, I will have videos where my path goes up and over as the structure is completed.  It took a few missions to get it dialed in but the method works great.  Thanks again......
