Unable to Import .kml file

Mark Dean

Having just purchased the Elite version of Dronelink, I am unable to import a .kml file. The message box I receive says that an upgrade is required (for advanced planning... or some such wording). However, when I look at the checklist of included features for Elite, this option is ticked as included. Could someone assist me?

Could you post a screenshot of the message you get when trying to import, also a screenshot of your home screen

    Thanks for replying.

Here is the screen grab portion of the message box

For clarity, the file was created in litchi and exported as a 3D kml file

Ok looking at that I'm guessing that litchi has exported the heights as AGL, which isn't supported under the hobbyist plan, what i'd suggest you try, is checking in litchi you've unticked the above ground check box, and export it again, then see what happens

    Hi Martin,

I tried the steps as you suggested to import the .kml file, but still seem to be getting the same message. Not sure what now to do?  It would be great to be able to import old flight missions to update and refine them inside Dronelink.

Hi Mark Dean, ok I've just taken a quick look at a KML export from Litchi and it uses a reference point for the start of a mission MSL (Mean Sea Level), which is what Dronelink is picking up on and causing that message (MSL is only available in the plans mentioned in the message), however all is not lost on what you are trying to do, as you can export your litchi missions as a csv file which you can then import into Dronelink.

Jim McAndrew, is there a way of solving the MSL problem

    Thanks again Martin.

It would be good if that part of the data could be removed, so that they would import into Dronelink without issue. I have some old missions saved only in .kml (having deleted the original missions in Litchi) Of course, the .csv would be the other option - and they could presumably be reimported into Litchi and then re-exported as .csv?

    thanks!

Check your Litchi mission. It is quite likely that you have checked AGL on one or more of the waypoints and that us what is pushing it to use MSL.
If you need AGL then you probably want to keep that. But it does tell you both altitudes (one in brackets) so you could manually adjust and remove the AGL before export.

Just open the KML file and change the altitude system?

I'm not sure how. to edit this, whether to remove the <absolute> tag or to change it to something else?

I tried removing the tag, but the upgrade message still show.

It surprises me that this feature is listed as included in Elite, on the website, but the actual capability/application of this feature should be made a little more transparent?

The import feature is part of elite, but in this case it depends on what other features the import might enable in the resulting mission plan (i.e. AGL altitudes, which are not part of elite). Will move this to feature requests to give you a toggle to ignore the AGL altitudes so you don't have to manually remove them. For now, the KML either needs to be fixed up or re-export the original plan from litchi without AGL altitudes selected.

I just created a quick mission in Litchi, then exported to .kml - the main settings in Litchi, had the 'Use Online Elevation' checkbox unticked and each of the waypoints also had the 'Above Ground' setting unchecked. When I import file into Dronelink, the same message about AGL still shows?

If you install VLM you can export as. CSV. Try that instead.

Thanks - I can't seem to find VLM - is that the 3D CAD software?

You don't need VLM to export as a csv you can do it straight from litchi mission hub

Third one up from the bottom

Oh yes - of course I'll use the litchi export to csv - thanks

@Martin. I may be wrong but I think the only reason you ha e the csv option is because you installed the VLM plugin

Barry Houldsworth, the plugin is the bottom one in red

It appears that litchi always sets this when exporting to KML (regardless of setting AGL in the original plan):

DL 4.1.0 will have a new option on import to ignore this:
