Version 4.0.0 (219) - Kernel 4.0.0 (Camera Start Capture Failed:)
Hi everyone.
Yesterday doing a flight above some roman heritage site, and using for the first time the new version 4.0.0 (219), i got an error (see attachment) after a few minutes. After pressing the Play the flight finished without any problems.
Plan: https://app.dronelink.com/joao-marques/abegoaria/plan/IIFV3OLpRf1v2bWeV9GW
Error:
Well and since i was used to the reliability of the previous release (Dronelink 3.4.1.208), is it possible to downgrade to the previous version at least for now? Thank you.

Hi João Marques, a couple of things I'd suggest is update your firmware, the latest is shown below:
Also could you possibly share that mission, maybe we can find out what caused the capture problem
Hi Martin Reading,
I really dont like to upgrade from a non-issue version to an new one (that most of the times DJI screw up something).
Regarding the mission: https://app.dronelink.com/joao-marques/abegoaria/plan/IIFV3OLpRf1v2bWeV9GW
Anyway is it possible to downgrade?
As I understand it Dronelink is designed to work with the latest firmware, I've never had a problem with a firmware update on my mini2, I'm only a user like yourself so don't know if possible to downgrade (219 working fine here). maybe Jim McAndrew could let you know.
Can't view the link, you need to make it public
And i understand that is designed to work with the latest firmware, but i never had any problem (everything works perfectly) with the Dronelink 3.4.1.208 and AIR 2s v02.04.21.50 thats why i'm asking if it possible to get the 3.4.1.208 version again (APK download or something like that).
Ofc if i really need to upgrade i will, but for now i prefer to use the 3.4.1.208 version.
Lets see what Jim says.
Maybe now its working: https://app.dronelink.com/joao-marques/abegoaria/plan/IIFV3OLpRf1v2bWeV9GW/03V7xfnEhWOcS2oPhe8e
Thanks Martin!
Yeah link working now, and can see nothing that should have given that message as it's just a simple mapping plan, very strange
Yep, wierd indeed.
And i must say the live feed with the new 'design' was very chunky and not fluid at all.
Lets see if its possible to downgrade for now (i dont have much time now to test new firmwares and versions).
I’d really suggest you keep the firmware updated. DL is setup to work with the latest DJI SDK and DL fixes. I’ve also have never had any issue with my MM or MA2 when updating the firmware for over two years. As far as the DL versions, you can’t downgrade to a previous “Production” version as far as I know. You can downgrade to a previous Beta version in the Test Flight app or whatever Android uses. Very simple to do. Just remember some of the newer versions whether the production or Beta version may have fixed certain issues. Especially with the A2S which has had several issues which were fixed with the newer DJI SDK or the DL team. So downgrading to an older version may give you more problems. If you were able to resume the mission without any issues then I would not worry about it unless it continues to to happen. Over the past two years I’ve had a few things pop up and once resumed the mission completes and I don’t see any further issue. Software is never perfect so on an occasion something may pop up.
The plan looks good so I’m sure it’s just one of those rare pop up’s which may not happen again. As you can see in the pop up message, it says to try and resume which sounds like what you did and it worked. Everything like any of the DL, DJI SDK and firmware updates are designed to work properly all together. It’s your choice but several things to think about. A one time pop up is something I’d definitely not worry about. If your camera feed is not smooth it may be something else. Possibly your device. Make sure you have no other apps running in background on it. I’d always make sure you have no other apps running and if you do you need to force close all of them, then completely shut down your device and restart just before using it. The DL app needs a powerful device and nothing else running. I know the Moto G8 power lite device is listed on the DL low performance device list. According to the specs they are using very similar Octa-Core processor’s as yours. Maybe try another device and see if the camera feed is good.
I’ve been using only the Beta versions to test for about the last about 8 to 10 months, maybe longer with no issues. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Mike thanks for the reply.
The phone it self, the G82 is a mid tier phone (4x faster then the Moto G8 lite) so the problem isnt the phone it self. It worked flawless in the previous build (3.XXX), even my old phone Mi A3 (low-mid tier) worked perfect.
Regarding the dji firmware, as an ardupilot veteran, i know that sometimes the latest versions aren't the best (too many combinations - phones (androids) and drones). Thats why if it works flawless why upgrade to the latest firmware? ;)
Ofc it could be only an one time issue (never had none) but if its possible to get the previous build it would be perfect. At least for now, even if i dont use this drone for nothing important (just a few flights of heritage for my university and my research pro bono), fiability is everything.
Anyway lets wait for master Jim McAndrew and thank you all for the quick replies.
We typically allow users 1-2 weeks to upgrade to the latest version of DL before we force it. We do not allow users to run old versions indefinitely because we regularly release updates to the web app (mission planner) and kernel that have new features that old versions of the native app would not support.
As for this specific error, the DJI SDK throws random errors quite frequently and there are many possible causes, such as a brief decrease in signal, that correct themselves from flight to flight. If you are consistently able to reproduce this message with a specific mission plan on a specific drone, we will look into it, but if it is random (in other words, we can’t reproduce it), then there isn’t much we can do.
Jim McAndrew Thank you for the clear up.
;)
Hello all,
First of all I want to say that not every software/firmware upgrade is the solution or an improvement. Very often it's an excuse from the seller or producer of a product that doesn't want to do any research and blames the other party of the software or firmware.
What I experienced is a same kind of problem like Joao; I upgraded the app software version to 4.0.0 and directly during the flight my drone was completely frozen after a couple of minutes of flying. Disconnecting the cables and restarting didn't bring any solution. The only way to get my drone back on the ground was by starting the Dji Fly app and fly it down manual.
After some searching for APK files I found the 3.4.1 version which I installed. (Removed the 4.0.0 version first). The problem I was experiencing before with 4.0.0 was completely gone. The drone flew his missions perfectly with 3.4.1.
Although I was very aware of the 'New software 4.0.0 available' message in the top of the screen, I managed to not install this new version. Yesterday however I wanted to fly a mapping over my new house and after a few minutes my drone was just hanging in the air complete frozen again, just like it did before. After checking the app version it seemed that it had been updated again to 4.0.0 although I tried to prevent that. Probably the software installs itself which I really don't like.
What I have (Hardware/Software/Firware):
Before everybody starts screaming about that I need to upgrade to the latest firmware version first; There is a reason that I fly with a much older firmware version for my drone. Directly right after buying my new Air 2S I realised it had a problem with the range; after 350 meter with a direct line of sight it lost connection and came back. Talked to the seller about it and wanted to send it back. Because of the worldwide problems with chip and part availability he had no more drones the send to me. Therefore I bought exactly the same drone from another company. This one had exactly the same problem with the distance and connection. This one was send back directly to the seller. A few days later DJI came with a firmware update for the Air 2S on which I put all my hopes to solve the ranging problem. Most people who have experience with DJI know that that was lost hope. Didn't fix or change anything besides my range was now around 150 meters. Because of my emigration to another country I had to take my loss and hoping to find some other fix.
I finally found some YT movies where they showed how to hack the drone firmware. What it actually does is that it gives you the opportunity to install an older firmware to your drone. In my case version 02.04.4020. It also gives you the opportunity to switch between the EU and the US version. The reason why I chose the US version is that in this one it selects the settings which comply to the FAA rules which generates a much stronger signal. Much stronger the the settings from the EU. Directly during the first flight I noticed a big improvement in range and that I could fly 700 to 800 meter without problems which is far enough for me. During a mapping flight with Dronelink however I noticed some connection issues which I did not have when I was flying with the DJI Fly app. A cheap range extender fixed that problem for me so everything work perfectly again.
I know meanings differ but I am convinced that not every update of firmware brings solutions or positive changes. DJI is a good example of that. The hardware/software settings solution I have now are a good working solution for me which is important when you fly a drone professionally.
Good luck and stay safe.
Danny
You should upgrade to v4 again and try switching to the classic dashboard to see if it resolves the issue.
Yep, since i switch to 'classic' dashboard everything works like always (no video delay, no error in the mission, nothing). And i really prefer the classic dashboard, much more detailed and with every info right there, really hope that the classic one never get removed.

Yep, everything works fine now without a freezing drone. Thanks !
Hi Danny. Not going to scream at you. Lol… 😳. Glad to hear it’s working the way you have it. I agree some software updates can have issues. However, most are fixed with additional updates relatively quick. As far as the limited distance the A2S was having that was corrected a long, long time ago. That firmware version is extremely old and many have been released since which corrected a lot of other problems especially with the gimbal the A2S was having. 99% of pilots have no issues with the latest firmware using the A2S and DL or DJI App. Also when using the Ocusync with that range extender you need to realize those are only for one frequency band. Only ones I’ve seen are for the 5.8 ghz band. So if using auto switching with the Ocusync which will switch to whichever band is needed for best connection it may not work as well. An example is if it auto switches to the 2.4ghz band for the best connection the extender will not be resonating at proper frequency since it’s a 5.8ghz extender. I’ve been a HAM radio operator for about 30 years and I’m no expert but I understand how radio radio transmissions work. I actually got a 5.8ghz extender for free to test a long time ago and I saw no difference. I tried with dual band auto switching and with only the 5.8ghz band selected. The Ocusync works extremely well and should not need anything to extend the range. If it works then great but should not need to jump through all those hoops. Since that firmware is so old I’d suggest updating to the latest Version with DJI Assistant software and the latest DL version and try it. Can’t hurt and if for whatever reason you have issues you can always go back with Drone-Hacks or other software. A lot of the issues I’ve seen are due to old firmware which once updated ate resolved 99% of the time.
One last thing. If the drone lost connection using DL on that mapping mission then that’s not the DL app. Whether using the DJI App or DL the connection between the drone and controller works the same. You actually don’t need to use any app to fly the drone but you would obviously not have all the functions or camera feed. So you may have had some interference on that day at the time you flew the mission but not when you flew it again. Interference is not always constant and some days it may not stay connected as well and other days it will work perfect at same location. Even if flying the same mission a few minutes later it can change. Any Interference can be intermittent for a short time or even worse on certain days. Just some thoughts and suggestion to consider but seems like you are doing way more work then needed. Pilots choice.
Good luck Danny. Best wishes.
