Update RTH point in downloaded map?

Lucas Fietz
Hi. I will do a mapping of an area without internet access. Therefore, I will download the mission plan before. Anyhow, I am afraid I might lift the drone in the mapping area from a point which is different from the before fixed lift off and RTH point when I created the plan (this is the purple symbol?). Now my question, will the RTH point automatically be updated to the location where I lifted the drone instead? Or do I have to be careful when the drone comes back for battery swap because it will fly to the purple symbol location and not to the location where I instead lifted it? Thx for your support.

Your return to home point doesn't require internet, it will be set when you launch the drone just as normal, as it just relies on GPS location from satellites

The more important consideration is what altitude are you expecting the drone to fly at? If you are using ATL (above takeoff location altitudes - the default), then the takeoff point can greatly affect this in hilly areas.

Hi Lucas. A few question I may be able to clarify more. Using an actual different take-off point then you set in the plan doesn’t really matter. If it’s too far away from the plans original reference pin a pop up warning will advise you but you can dismiss and still launch. It will just warn you of the change in take-off area and as Jim stated can make a difference if flying in a hilly area with ATL. Wherever you actually launch the drone from is what it will be used as the reference to include when RTH is activated for a battery swap. It “will not” use were the reference pin was placed in the plan you created. The drones altitude reference and recorded Home Point for RTH will always be from where the drone is actually launched from. Also if I’m not mistaken I believe it should still use your set RTH altitude in either the DJI or DL app but maybe Jim can confirm. I haven’t really paid close attention when I perform battery swaps especially since most of my missions are at around 100’ or so in altitude and my set RTH altitude is set to roughy 120’. If your concerned about the altitude when returning you can just pause the mission once it goes into RTH and manually ascend, fly it back, replace the battery and continue. I hope I fully understood all your questions and hope some of this helps. Good luck and enjoy.

Yes that's correct, if its below that it will ascend to the set height and come home so make sure that its set high enough to clear anything on the way home, because remember when it RTH's it's a straight line.
