Mapping not possible on Spark with premium plan?

Jason Rubenstein

The documentation suggests that the Spark is a supported drone - but it won't accept a gimble angle of -90 (-85 is max I believe).  If I try to make a mapping mission with the -85 gimble, dronelink says I need to upgrade plans.

Any way to make this work on the premium plan?  I'm trying to do a simple mapping mission, I only need the oblique angle because of the spark hardware limitation so I don't think I should be required to get the elite level...

Well it says you need the elite level to do oblique, so that's how it is, the same for everyone, there are mapping bits that i wouldn't mind but they are only in business plans, so I'd have to pay extra to get them.

The other answer is to get an up to date drone, I do simple mapping with a mini 2

They should list it as a support limitation on the Spark if you can't do standard mapping.

It is shown as advanced mapping on the pricing page https://app.dronelink.com/pricing/hobbyist/compare

I understand that, but where does it say if you have a spark you can only do mapping if you have the elite?

you can do standard mapping with a spark as it comes under premium, but oblique (any angle other than -90) and grid are advanced mapping

Ok, so even when I upgrade to Elite and set the gimble target to -85, I am still getting a "gimble orientation" error.  I can manually adjust the gimble to -85, but as soon as I run the mission it moves the gimble back up to zero, then gives a gimble error.

Just run it in simulator and it looks ok, maybe Jim McAndrew, can shed some light

I assume -85 should be fine for the spark gimble angle target, since I can manually get it to that angle.

Curious if DJI still does support firmware updates. If so I’d check using the DJI Assistant PC software for your drone. (Not with the app). Check and make sure it’s up to date. I’m not familiar with the Spark but can’t hurt to try. I know DJI has updated the SDK a couple times to fix issues not long ago and DL is using the most current one for their software. If able to update the Spark it may help solve some issues. Especially with gimbal since that was of the biggest problems awhile back. Can’t hurt to check and even if it”s up to date I’d fresh everything. Good luck.

Can any other users confirm they have mapping missions working with Spark and what are your gimble target settings?

Jason Rubenstein, can you just go to your home page on Dronelink & make sure it has updated you to Elite

I believe you actually have to set it to -84.5 to work.

It looks like it only takes integers for the gimble, but I can try -84

-84 worked.  Should add this to the docs somewhere...

Maybe. Only about half a percent of users in the last year are using sparks...

Hi Jim, I'm in the same boat as Jason was 2 years ago.  I have a spark that I need to use to map out a 5 acre lot that I purchased last year.  I just purchase the premium hobby plan for this purpose but I'm not able to map my land with the spark limitations of the gimble angle. Jason mentioned -84 worked for him.  Any chance you can help me the same way you helped him? Please and thank you!

I have no intensions of making money off this app, purely hobby. Please help me with my mapping issue. thank you again.

The solution is the same: if you want mapping with oblique angles (which is what is required for the Spark), then you have to upgrade to Elite.

Hi Jim, any chance I can get a coupon code for the upgrade?  I won't need the extra features of the Elite.  I only purchased this for the mapping feature, not aware the spark wasn't going to work :(  My wife would kill me if she found out I spent another $60.  I don't want a refund as a feel the app is amazingly refined and pretty cool.  I'm excited to test it out. Perhaps you can make an exception? or update the app to allow for -84 degrees on the "premium" plan? Please have mercy on me.

If we do that it isn’t fair to all the other users who pay for the upgrade because they value the feature.

Hi Jim, perhaps there is a misunderstanding.  The "feature" you mentioned, is "mapping missions".  I paid for that feature, it's included with "Premium" plan. It's unfair for customer's (like myself) to pay for the "Premium" plan, an up charge from the basic, just for the "mapping" feature. Only to find out that it doesn't work after days of troubleshooting an ambiguous error message. The supported drones page only mentions the Spark is an "unofficial" supported drone.  It doesn't mention anything about why or what is not supported. It's unfair to charge a customer $60 for -6 degree of gimbal movement. Please reconsider, thank you sir.
