Gimbal orientation fail notice for my DJI Air 2S

bryan nyhof

Hello,

I'm trying to use the mapping feature for my drone and so far have not been able to do more than get the drone in the air.  Once it reaches its altitude I read that the gimbal orientation has failed.  I've tried to reset everything as well as hit play again.

I'm running on a Pixel 4a, and have the DJI Fly app open (not sure if I'm supposed to do that).  The latest app of DJI FLY will not open (seems to be a very common problem) so I have a slightly older version of the app 1.5.10 (1070)

Here is the link to the mission:

I currently have the Grow subscription and would love the app to work.

I too just had trouble with the Air2s...  Finally flew the mission but seemed to be about 10m off target then when I checked the photo's it had not turned the gimbal down 90*....

    1. The DJI Fly App should be stopped (forced stopped) before opening the Dronelink app.

Only open either DJI Fly App or Dronelink App to operate the aircraft. Don't open both at the same time.

    2. The DJI Air 2S's old firmware has bugs about the gimbal movement. There is no choice but upgrading the latest firmware to fly normally.

I've just completed serval flight missions with DJI Air 2S today and everything is fine.

I am Android and am not Dronelink's beta.

Excellent TYVM, as I was in a restricted flight zone I had to get permission pre launch.  That did mean opening the DJI app 1st and then I was not 100% sure...   a 2nd flight this afternoon worked well after a quick edit of the mission.

Ray, is the dji Air 2S firmware different than the GoFly app?

If you don't have the DJI app open what do you do if Dronelink cuts out on you for some reason?  I thought having the other app open was a safety precaution (no offense to Dronelink).

I'm certainly a nubby but am needing to make this work for my business.  I'm an architect and want to map out clients' properties.  Once this gets up and running it would be amazing.

And thank you so much for spending the time for the advice.  Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Jim, it seems as though the solution is uploading the 197 version of Dronelink.  Is that correct?  Do you have a link for that?

    Thank you.

I tried to fly a simple mission this morning with the beta version--3.3.2 (I believe that is the numbers) and kept the DJI app off.  Still had the issue with the gimbal.

If the app closes for some strange reason just take control. You can hit the pause button, RTH or even still fly manually. If it does close and you want or need video feed then open DJI Fly app. It will take a short time to load but there will be no issue .

I always update Firmware with DJI Assistant 2 but as long as you update via Wi-Fi then it should be up to date. You can check the firmware version in the Fly app and even click on check for updates to make sure.

If you open the Native app and click on the hamburger button at top, it will show the version and build of DL your using. Jim posted the link above for all the information regarding this issue.

    Beta Links.

Jim, am I correct that 3.3.2 is what I should be using for my Air2S to be working properly?

Mike, the only app of DJI that is working for me is the DJI Fly app (version 1.5.10).  Are you having luck with the DJI Go and DJI assist apps?  I'm an Android user.

    Thanks very much.

An update:  I have the latest firmware on the drone, the latest DJI app that works, and the beta version on Dronelink.  Just flew a mission and again, got the same result.  The gimbal error is consistent.  Any final thoughts before I return the expensive flying camera :)

Bryan. Only app that works with A2S is the DJI Fly. Did you try “refreshing” the firmware on the drone with DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drone Series) on your PC. No way to do this with DJI Fly app. Sometimes refreshing the firmware can Fix issues.

I have tried the DJI assistant 2 (consumer drones series) and continue to get 'server error'.

Any advice and help would be amazing for sure.  I think we are very close.

I'm nearly certain that I've got the correct DJI assist but if you could shoot a link.... I could be sure.  Any advice on the error?

I have also tried the DJI assist on a different computer--trying anything at this point.  I disabled the firewall just to make sure that was not interfering.  Seems to be a dead end.  Amazing that this isn't easier.

The question I do have to ask is if I have the latest Firware.

Firmware for the drone is: 02.04.1691  I did try to update it through the DJI fly app and got the same 'server error'.

It seems like the latest is 02.04.2150. If you are having issues updating the firmware you need to contact DJI support. We were able to update ours through the DJI Fly app.

Jennifer, what I finally did was went to a friend's house who uploaded the latest firmware from his Apple phone.  Once that was done I was in business.  I've since bought an Apple phone.  Everything runs now--took a while for sure to get it right.

Just some thoughts for future issues. Updating using Wi-Fi with the DJI app is fine if it works and the most current firmware is listed. However, if still having issues the firmware cannot be updated in the app. I’ve had a couple issues over the last two years even though the current firmware was installed as indicated in the app. I always use the DJI PC software to update or even refresh the firmware. I refreshed the firmware on both drone and controller which corrected the issues. Firmware is basically just software for the drones hardware and problems can occur. It may be a good idea to install the correct DJI assistant software and if having issues updating figure out why it is not working for your drone. I send a direct email to DJI and overall they have been helpful figuring out my issue fairly quick. One issue was fixed by simply switching to a different version of the PC software for my specific drone even though it wasn’t listed for my MA2. Just something to think about. Good luck….
