Support for DJI mini 3 pro
I recently bought a DJI mini 2 and plan to use it for mapping some archeological sites and a friend's castle in Spain this summer. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me - I'll be 69.
It looks like the mini 3 pro will come out next week, with incredible specs, like 48 MP compared to the 12 MP of the mini 2. I know it is up to DJI more than dronelink, but I was wondering - have you got any idea what the delay might be for DJI to update the SDK for the mini 3 pro, and how long it might take dronelink to be able to incorporate it?
Also - any idea on time needed to be able to not only control the mini 3 pro, but to be able to do it using it's new pro controller with built-in large display?
I would tend to assume these tasks would all be in short order on the one hand, but having seen other amazing delays also have my big doubts. I know you cannot say anything with certainty, especially when it has not even been released yet. But I know you can give me your opinion, much more knowledgeable than my guesses. Any and all guesstimates and feedback are welcome.
Thanks - Mark

It's normally about a year
Yep. It’s gotten worse and DL doesn’t give estimates other then once DJI releases it, DL usually gets a Beta version out with a few weeks. If lucky maybe end of year but who’s knows. You can check the DJI developer website for an announcement date but a stated, it may be quite awhile.
Here is a link to the website.

Personally, I won't be bothering with the mini 3 as my mini 2 in conjunction with Dronelink does everything I need it to do
Thanks Martin and Mike. Yeah, I'd love to have 48MP, but pretty much figured I will be using my mini 2 and dronelink for quite a while.
Reminds me of 2 principles - you learn by doing - in my case buying a great existing drone and using it, as opposed to waiting for the next great shiny object, and reading and watching videos, while my dream remains parked in the "someday" elephant graveyard.
And - again - something tried and proven that you can use and apply right now always has more value than that next shiny object!
Looks like rumors of about $800 plus which is strange. MA2 is still just $988 for the full combo and is a much better drone overall. It takes 48MP photos too. Just my thoughts. Not sure what DJI is doing but some do want the next best thing. Lol…..
Is it the sub 250 grams? May be a big factor for a lot of countries, even in US.
Yeah it's sub 250 grams, however for all the extra cash it doesn't really offer a lot over the mini 2, there is a version with a larger battery offering 47 minutes of flying time, but I'm guessing that will put it the wrong side of 250 grams
Even a sub 250 gram drone has the same FAA Regs as any other. Nothing you can do different then any of these consumer drones. The biggest complaint I hear is a lot of people don’t like paying $5 to the FAA and registering their name. The US government has more info on everyone then they think. Lol…. Oh well..
There are some first-run videos hitting today, 5-7.
The new controller does not look to have third-party app support. It just runs the DJI Fly Now. The reviewer could not get it to the main android screen.
PLUS it takes time for the SDK to release. THEN DL has to integrate and test. How often does DJI release its SDK for new products?
I am stoked about the upward-facing camera. I think this will be super nice for inspections. However, even if the release date is the 10th, I doubt they will have enough inventory to fulfill.
I'm still shopping for my first, and will probably have to do an A2S. Would love to have DL+Mini3Pro in May - but I just don't see it happening. And I am not really prepared to wait half a year. If anyone sees anything I'm all ears.
Let's go back to paper airplanes and dreaming.
I for one will be buying the full m3 ensemble next week. It has huge improvements/enhancements over m2.
But I will also still be keeping and regularly flying my m2.
I have the Mavic Mini 3 Pro, any timeline for Drone Link support?
Probably about a year at a guess, based on the period that DJI normally release the so after launching a new drone
Read above posts. Nothing DL can do until DJI builds and releases the SDK. I’d Check the link above I gave to the DJI developer website. That’s your best source. Good luck.
Following the information write above, the MSDK will be available for DJI Mini 3 Pro Q2, 2023.
https://sdk-forum.dji.net/hc/en-us/articles/8818033368857-What-is-the-plan-for-the-consumer-level-aircraft-
The MSDK is gradually prioritising to the enterprise level aircraft, the priority level of product from high to low is enterprise level aircraft > consumer level aircraft > hanheld product.
There are 3 remote controller: DJI RC-N1; DJI RC and DJI RC PRO. My question is with which type of remote controller this application will operate?
Regards
Pascal
Pascal Geslot, that will depend on what DJI allow, so I'm guessing probably not the DJI RC as from what i can make out DJI have pretty much restricted that to only allowing DJI fly on it, you even have to cache maps on it
All the information we have is in that link above.
The beta for the Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro is now available.
WOO-HOO! Hallelujah!
I have plans to use Dronelink at a major European archeological site in June!
