strange gimbal behaviour orbid on fly
I defined an orbid with the on the fly function. I marked the center point and the radius. When starting the orbid the camera did not not face the center point and I could not adjust the gimbal. should the radius have a minimum size ?

Can you share the plan ? Orbits work really well and should work properly if setup correctly. If it is a very small diameter like 20’ to 30’ or so I have had issues. I Believe it’s do to the Orbit being way to tight to rotate and keep gimbal at a very steep angle. I haven’t tried any that small Orbits in awhile but larger diameters like 100’ or more work without issues.
I have the same issue with Orbit on the fly.
Difficult to maintain a constant angle of the gimbal. Need to struggle with the stick. Don’t know why.
You should not need to control the sticks or gimbal if set up correctly. It should fly the same as an Orbit created with the web app. A number of selections which need to be correct when setting it up. I’d watch the YouTube videos about them. It May help.

Johann, if you go into your completed missions you can save them as a plan
Yes, what Martin said. A bit more info. Any mission you have flown can be opened and coped to a Repo. On the fly missions are the same and in the previously ran missions tab, The little Airplane Icon at bottom. Open, copy to a Repo. Even If you deleted an already flown plan and decided you wanted it back, you can access it same way and save again.
When I start an Orbit with the "On the fly" should it be saved as a mission ? For that day I only have one mission ( a dronie).
I tried the orbit several times that day. I did not remove the sd-card without shutting down the mini.
Perhaps the "orbits" are not saved becaused they were not completed ? They do not appear under aborted missions too, nor under history
If you flew the mission it should be under your history.

I did not fly a mission, I flew an orbit. Don't know if that's makes a difference ?
They are all missions - it isn't like Litchi where the orbit is a separate thing.
If you didn’t complete the mission and either paused it or aborted it then it won’t be in the flown missions list. On the fly must be a completed.
I flew a On the fly Orbit a few days ago to test it. It was fairly close to where I marked the center and performed good. It was too windy to get a smooth Orbit but no other issues. Must set the center, outer and gimbal behavior.

On the fly Orbits are actually Modes, which cannot be re-used. If you want to reuse something like an Orbit, try the Circle function.
Jim McAndrew That clarifies a lot. When I have time I will try another orbit and see if the gimbal still doesn't do what I expect and see if a circle gives better results.
In the video that Mike refers to it is said that a mission is created when you defined the orbit and that it can be edited afterwards ??
According to my own experience, on the fly orbit allows to modify both altitude and radius during the flight.
This was working fine.
My only concern was to maintain the gimbal with a constant angle. I needed to adjust regularly the stick in order to keep the POI in the center of the screen (even for constant altitude / radius).
Original question was, it would not face the center point. It needs to be set up properly when creating it. The Video explains this procedure.
Sorry, I didn’t realize On the fly Orbits could not be reused. I’ve only used on the fly functions a few times so not that familiar with all of them. I Learned something new again. 😳
