Dji Mini 3 Mapping Missions
Hello Dronelink community,
New to dronelink and drones in general here. Just attempted my first dronelink flight today and safe to say it didn't go well. First I was running into connectivity issues. No big deal, landed the drone, restarted and then everything was going ok. Got about 2 minutes into my 25 minute planned mission and the drone started going pretty far off course (100-FT or more) and then began giving me failed mission messages related to camera timing and startup. Attempted to continue the mission (happened a few more times) until the software went completely haywire and essentially flew the drone straight into the ground. I was thankfully able to save it by sending the drone into a snowbank but jeez! To say the least I'm pretty frustrated and feel like I now spent $120 on a software that doesn't work. Hoping to get some guidance here from someone who has more experience with this and can give me some tips on how to fix this.
Open to any suggestions to hopefully prevent this from EVER happening again.
Thanks!
Also, here is the link for my mission. I'm using DJI mini 3 with RC-N1 and a new Samsung Galaxy A-15.

I would try a better device - the A series Galaxy phones are not known for being powerful.
Also, did you force close the DJI fly app before you started?
Your link doesn't work so I can't look at that.

Hi Ben Kelly. The link to your plan is not working so maybe you can try again. Other than what Barry has mentioned it sounds like something else other than the DJI app. If you think the DL app caused the crash then you can request a review to see if it was due to their app. They will need the flight logs. In over 5 years I’ve seen maybe a few claims which after review it turned out being a plan setup issue, not the DL app.

Are you seeing the behavior described in this thread?
Thank you all for the help. Since I posted this thread I have flown 3 successful missions. I'm still not sure what the original problem was but I've gotten better results since. What I have noticed though is to achieve successful mission I have to turn off the "verify file created" setting and increase the "min capture interval" to 8-10 seconds (not truly sure what this even does as the interval is set to distance not time - maybe someone can explain further). This seems to work well and I haven't had any issues but it seems the drone doesn't fly in a true smooth fashion. It kind of goes, then stops for a few seconds, takes the picture, and then continues on. I'm not sure if this issue relates back to the processing power of the device I'm using but that's kind of what I suspect. Ideally I would like to fly the missions efficiently with a shorter capture interval so I can do a larger area eventually and not have to change batteries. I've tried to attach another link to one of my successful missions so some of you with more experience can get eyes on all my settings. I really appreciate all the help so far and look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Also, if after reading this you all think this is a device issue, what are your recommendations on a device for me to get. i bought the A-15 just to make a few attempts at this (kind of oblivious to requirements at first) but I would gladly get a better device to achieve better more efficient results. ideally under a few hundred dollars if possible, its really only use is for doing this. Thanks again!
It is recommended that you download the mission, then switch to offline mode by disconnecting wifi and activating airplane mode.
This should prevent DL from hanging.
If he is having the issue described in the thread, the beta should correct it.
Indeed, if the mission runs correctly offline, beta version 5.3.0 will fix the problem when running online.
How do I check which version I have? You are correct it runs good offline. I haven’t tried online but that’s not really a concern for me. Like I said in my second post though, I have to significantly increase the min capture interval and the drone flies in a bit of a choppy fashion. Would like to correct that
Hey Ben. The second link to your mission doesn’t work either. The main reason for sharing your plan is so either DL staff or another pilot can test it with their Mini 3. This may help to rule whether it’s the device or not and if part of the issue is in the link Jim sent. It may be a combination of the two. The first thing I would do is download the Beta version to see if this corrects the erratic behavior described in the link before buying a newer device.

Also I have been using beta. Version 5.2.2 (309) | Kernel 5.2.0
The current beta is 5.3.0 (314). The app will notify you when a new beta version is available (if you are already on the beta).
