Gimbal pitch in orbit

Bob Scheffler

I can not seem to find this answer in any of the tutorials ore posts.  Can I change the gimbal pitch at a particular point in a spiraling orbit.  For example:  I have 9 rotations, each one is slightly smaller and lower in altitude.  Can I change the gimbal pitch at, say, the 6th orbit?

The gimbal pitch will automatically change to stay on the POI as altitude and radius changes. I’ve flown corkscrews orbits and it’s always stayed on the POI. I’ve looked and see no way to change at a specific point during any of the orbit. You can change what the gimbal pitch is by adding gimbal orientation and setting it. However, once you set it at a particular pitch it will remain that way throughout the orbit and won’t be focused on the POI. Hope this helps.

    Enjoy, Mike…….

I kinda realized that what I wanted it to do was not possible but I was not sure that there was some back door ability to do it.  I think the POI might be the only way to do it, but I do not know how to set the POI for a general direction that includes elevation.  I was just experimenting, I live in a flight path for Medivac helicopters.  I want to get some video of them flying by, but short of just putting the drone up and hovering in one direction until one comes along I don't know how to accomplish this.  I created a spiral descent with the drone aiming in the direction that they fly by, but when the drone comes down below the trees I cannot see them so  I want the Gimbal to point up.  And that is at about 6 rotations.  No big deal just playing with program.  By the way, thanks for the compliment about my flight hours.  My wife does not think it's a compliment, she thinks it just shows how much time I waste.  My hobby, not hers, she can go to book club if she wants.  No emojis here so, HA, HA, HA.

    Hi Bob.

Just for fun I created a spiral Orbit that may be similar to what you may want. You can just add one, two or more orbits as long as the next Orbits altitude and diameter are set from the previous one. Then the gimbal pitch can be changed for each orbit. This may not be exactly what your looking for but maybe it will give some ideas. You can also just setup a path to go in a circular, oval or other configuration and then add your markers to change altitude, drone heading, pitch etc, as you know. I tried one with a path and it takes a bit more time but you will have more control of all those functions/ features. Setting the corner radius to straight and then editing all of them at once is easy. You can set them at 300° or whatever radius you want so the path during flight will look smoother. I put this together fairly quick so obviously you can change or add anything. Just some suggestions which may help. Continue to enjoy Bob.

    Good day, Mike…….

Before reading this I did just what you suggested.  I created a path in a circle and created a POI in the general direction the choppers come from.  It took about 10 minutes.  I will also try playing with the markers.  Thanks.

You are really in the middle of nowhere. Where I am I have to worry about trees, towers, and helicopters, and the occasional person with a nail gun.

Lol. Yes I do. My biggest issue is wind. It blows here every single day with a minimum of 5 to 10 mph. No biggie at those speeds with my MA2 but that is the lowest range. A lot of windy days with 15 to 30 mph or more gust. My personal weather station has recorded 71 mph last season and 79 mph this last rainy monsoon season. I rarely fly my wife’s Mavic Mini due to the higher winds but that’s life. Just part of droning.

    Enjoy Bob.

I actually had someone try to shoot my drone down with a nail gun

Wow. Probably not prosecuted either. Ridiculous.

He was actually parked illegally in the baseball field next to my house and he actually called the police.  The incident ended up in the local newspaper's police blotter.  I went to the police myself and asked if they thought I did something wrong and they said, "I don't think so, but he did, and you should have called us and we would have sited him.

Hi, was looking for something similar too.

Currently for Orbits we've got "Starting Radius" and ability to also include "Ending Radius" which is great!

Could this request be one that gives as similar scenario for as in "Starting Gimbal Pitch" and "Ending Gimbal Pitch", and leave the interpolation between the two to either linear or non-linear computationally?
