Display Recommendation

Rob Donald

Hello,

I fly a Phantom 4 Pro owned by a non-profit lake association in Eastern Ontario.  My current drone display is the Crystal Sky from DJI.  I also do understand it cannot be used in conjunction with the Dronelink software.

My budget for a display is around $350 CDN (~$270 USD) and I understand that I'll probably need to go to the used market.   If possible, I would like to have a tablet, although I understand that my budget may force me to go to a phone.  I am open to either Android or Apple platforms.

My question:

Does anyone have any recommendations for a screen that will perform well and yet fit within my budget limitations?

Regards & Thanks.

Rob Donald

I am a fan of the iPad Mini as a dedicated drone device.  It is a nice balance between adequate power and screen size.  I fly both of my Mavic drones with it and routinely use it with Dronelink.

You can get the latest generation 5 iPad Mini, Wifi only, refurbished within you budget.

Hi Rob. I agree with David. I use the iPad Mini 5 also. Very popular device and a new one is about $400 or less for a WiFi only 64gig. Refurbished will be less and it’s power is more then capable of handing DJI and Dronelink apps. It’s a Nice size screen at 7.9 inches and so much better then a small 5 inch Phone screen. I use mine almost exclusively for my several drones and About 90% of my DL plans are created on it. I rarely use my PC. A small 5 inch phone screen will make it harder to create and manage the plans/missions etc.

    Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks to you all for your thoughts and recommendations.  I'll look into each of the devices and let you know how it turns out.

    Cheers,

Hey Mike,   Question for you.  The DroneLink Web App has an Address Search option when creating a mission, but this seems to be missing on the mobile app version. Since you do your mission planning on the IPAD, how do you jump to a given address / location to begin the mission planning?

Hi Daniel. From the screenshot the layout looks like it’s a phone. Is it an Android phone. I’ve seen this asked before when others are using the built in mission planner with any phone. The UI is different on a phone due to the screen size and just not enough room for everything to fit compared to larger screen device like a tablet or iPad. My iPad 11 Pro and my old iPad Mini 5 has the search bar when I open the built in mission planner so I’m sure that’s why. If it’s an Android tablet then I would think it should be there but I don’t have any way to check.
