DJI App - Run in Background?

Jamie Mink

I've flown DJI drones for quite some time, and am diving in deep with this awesome Dronelink software, wow it appears so powerful.  Question (apologies if it's been asked, I didn't find it in a search):  Is it recommended to run the DJI GO4 or DJI FLY app in the background (Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic Mini, respectfully) such than if a RTH command is sent it references the DJI App settings?  I noticed when flying the Mini that the Dronelink settings to set this parameter is not functional.  Thanks!

No, as you will then get this problem.

The RTH functionality is built in to the drone's firmware, and applies when any app is running (DJI GO / Fly / any third-party, etc). Can you share your mission plan and a screen recording that shows the RTH not working?

Thanks, Jim.  My last sentence was a bit unclear, I apologize.  I have not initiated a RTH command when flying with Dronelink (yet!).  What I meant to communicate was that when in the Dronelink native app and I click on the preferences screen, there is no field to set the RTH height.  Where is Dronelink obtaining that value from?  The last height set in the DJI Fly software perhaps?  I've attached a screen shot of the Dronelink  screen.  I just want to have the comfort of knowing what/where Dronelink is getting the RTH altitude from when/if the drone uses the command.

    Thanks again.  Ref:

Yes, all these settings are stored on the drone when you make them in any app. The only thing Dronelink is doing when it activates RTH is telling the drone to do it - DJI takes over at that point and it is the same as it would be had you activated in their app or via the RC.

Hey Jim.  I have a related question.  I am new to the drone world and new to Dronelink, but having a lot of fun with it.

I am running some test runs near my home in preparation for a larger multi-battery mission.  My wish is that I can start the mission in one location and then walk to a second location (clearing) on the property I am mapping and reset the home location to my second location.  When the battery gets low and triggers RTH, I don't want the drone to return to the original take-off location, I need it to return to my new location so I can swap batteries.  I have tried to update the home location in the DJI Fly app while in the air, however it disconnects from Dronelink when I do this and fails the mission.  When I restart the mission, it starts, but the live video feed does not come back.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

We are adding a Home Location drone command (in 2.0.0) so you can programmatically change the home point anywhere in the mission.

Perfect.  It looks like 2.0.0 is available now from what I can tell in other posts?  Correct?

And what about the loss of video issue?  Do you think that is because I went into the Fly app during the mission and it fowled things up?

2.0.0 is in beta. Running DJI Fly in the background always screws things up.
