I just tried running a mission for the third time, and this time, the mission and the drone stopped, and all associated telemetry on my device screen stopped with it. I waited a couple minutes (best guess on the time I waited), and after seeing no more data or movement on my screen, decided to press the return to home button, mainly because the mission was fairly long, and I figured that any hovering in place would have thrown off my battery life estimates which I obviously did not want to risk.
The first two times I ran the same mission, it stopped, but in both of those cases, it gave a Telemetry Delayed message. After reading the boards a bit on the Telemetry error, I chalked those two failed missions up to wind throwing the mission off just enough to cause it to abort. By the way... each of the three times I've run this mission, it's gotten further along (for what that's worth).
So, more to the point here... this third mission... which I mentioned at the outset of this message, and that I used the return to home function successfully on, I'm guessing now stopped, because it lost connection with the controller. I did some more reading on the boards and after reading this post (address below) was surprised to learn that I can expect the mission to stop anytime the drone gets far enough away to lose connection.
Is that really the case? No way around that? I was sort of under the impression that the drone losing connection to the controller was what autonomous missions and mission planning was all about. For me.. part of the excitement of finding this new Dronelink software, and the way I was headed with regards to mission planning, was to think of the battery life as being the only remaining limiting factor, which would have left one to simply use the controller and Dronelink to merely launch the mission, set the controller aside once it did lose connection to the drone, then do the best one could to maintain their line of sight as it went on its way and finished/returned to home, etc.
Can someone please either confirm of deny my suspicions on what one can expect when the drone loses connection to the controller due to distance? Also, any comments, critique, questions, or suggestions... on or of the way I'm going about this would be greatly appreciated!
