my mavic mini . First fly with dronelink. But lost

HiAppHere
First Fly. Start the mission. After one minute. The dronelink app died. The screen paused. Is Lost signal? I wait 5 minutes. Because the mission is 4minutes. My mavic broken? Why lost signal the mission didn't complete? I am afraid my drone fall down. Wait 10 minutes. The drone didn't return home. I follow the path to search. The drone in the sky. Why?

    Hi,

DL's support staff is out today, but I wanted to try and get a little info for them after watching the video.

What android device were you using here?

What happened at the end here?   The drone is not far from you and above ground - probably within Line of Sight.

Even if the battery ran down, it should have done an auto RTH.   If you had pushed the RTH button, it should have come back as well (the drone will fly even without the phone/software connected)..

I don't think DL's software can or would override DJI's RTH settings.  If the battery is low - it will RTH..  If for some strange reason it didn't, it would have come down straight where it was "stuck" in the air, right?  Were you able to walk over there and find the drone?  Is that what you're saying that the Mavic is "broken"?

I haven't seen an issue like this before where the drone is frozen, but maintain's video connection.   If there is a bad wire/connection, app crashes, the drone will freeze in the air, but you can still have the drone RTH or reconnect the wire properly/restart the app to regain control.

I realize there is a language barrier here, but can you provide more information here as to exactly what happened?

    Thanks..

I have already find my drone. The drone frozen in the sky. If this distance is far. I can't find. My drone will fall down. I restart DL. And restart dji fly. The app display in flight.

My phone is Android. Huawei mate 30

my question is wrong? Lost connection the drone stay in sky unti battery is low and wait for return home?

The behavior of the drone on connection loss depends on what you have set for the connection failsafe, which can either be hover, RTH, or auto-land.

It's to stay mavic mini not support waypoint and doesn't complete mission when lost connection?

As I have reported elsewhere had this same problem and was too nervous to hit RTH as hitting once to cancel plan did nothing and sticks totally unresponsive and I was less than 20M away so drone would have followed DJI protocol and landed on my pitched roof and I was nervous I wouldn't be able to move it away.

Since then I have tested with the Mini and am confident in this situation if long pressingg RTH would allow me to regain control and either let the drone RTH or cancel RTH and fly home with sticks.

This is my one issue with DL and why I haven't 100% dived in yet but too be fair I have only tested from home with wifi interference an issue. But as soon as wind dies down here plan to go to a remote location and try out again. I'm hoping eventually DL will figure out with these type of disconnects how to pause the plan (just like hitting the pause button) and resume but appreciate that easier said than done. That ability of resumption in these cases is really what DL needs to be robust for the likes of wifi drones like the mini in my opinion as currently the disconnect thing is a barrier.

Just to be clear, are you wanting Dronelink to automatically resume the mission when connection is re-established?

I think it's more about DL "regaining" control after these disconnects, DJI Fly must be experiencing them all the time but maintains connectivity. Optimally I think a message saying "resume mission" picking up from where you came unstuck would be great as for some missions you are going to have start again anyway but some maybe not. As it stands now if you get one of these disconnects you seem to only be able to regain control by RTH and turning off DL.

On a positive note this morning I went to a field about 1km from home and ran a heap of plans and On The Fly's and all ran (in a reasonable wind too) really well in fact I would have to say flawless so I'm going to post about that separately as a good news story about DL and also highlights wifi interference in built up areas.

I also have another theory. When the drone or controller comes on/connects you get that USB message with the mini asking to choose your app and connect either by default or as a one off. Is it possible that if you are getting a disconnect that is happening in the background? If it is it doesn't show an just thought maybe another variable to consider...

To further clarify: currently when the drone get disconnected and then reconnects, you should already be able to just hit the play button again and it resumes. So we are talking about it just auto tapping the play button for you on reconnect?

Ok I'll have to test that some more and see if I can force a disconnect but the disconnects I have seen have totally locked up the drone requiring a RTH but I'll pay more attention to the play button and see what happens. I'll do that in a wifi environment but pretty sure have tried that in past but will recheck. Thanks

When the drone disconnects, it is still in "virtual stick" mode, but if it truly stays disconnected, the onboard RTH will automatically activate. If the RC reconnects, but for some reason the app does not, and the only way to get control back is to use the RTH toggle trick (on the mavic mini) or the flight mode switch (on every other drone).

I think we need to be more specific about what is actually happening. Is the drone actually completely disconnected (no communication with the RC), or is the RC still connected but the app thinks the drone is disconnected for some reason.

I'll make some detailed observations and let you know. I'll set the drone to RTH (I'll keep it over clear ground at all times though) and see if it will kick in but my experience so far is it will....

    • Stop the plan and just stay put
    • Even if set to RTH will do nothing no matter how long (low battery would probably initiate RTH
    • Long press RTH would bring home

But I'll get this to repeat a few times and keep an eye on the connection lights etc

So tried out some plans in town....

    • 360 Auto Exposure Pano
    • 360 Manual Exposure Pano
    • 180 Strip Pano
    • 180 Vertical Pano

I put my phone on Airplane mode this time and they all ran fine EXCEPT for my 360 Manual Pano. It stopped part way through and like above...

    • The plan was unresponsive it wouldn't accept any input infact nothing on the DL app would receive any input
    • The controller didn't flash or anything
    • Couldn't see the indicator on the Drone it was 20m up
    • As soon as I long pressed RTH drone responded and started to land but I could intervene
    • Without landing I restarted DL and it picked up connection again
    • I ran the same plan again and second time it worked fine.

Still need to test more but appears the connection between Dronelink and the controller is frozen. I didn't test if I could use the sticks to control the drone without RTH but I'll try this next time. On previous occurrences sticks wouldn't work without RTH first.

    I'll keep playing and reporting...

Now I'm more confused than ever but in a good way..

I tried to get DL to lock up and freeze. I kept my phone on Wifi and Blutooth mode I ran a bunch of DL plans I have written. I walked inside my house and left the plan running (HDR 360 plan takes about 5 mins) I even went right infront of our Wifi Router the strongest source of 5G Wifi my area. I was actually really surprised even 3 or 4 walls between myself and the drone 7m  up in the air and router within 20cm.... the video feed and connection and plan were perfect!

Tried repeatedly and that 360 HDR plan takes a lot of images really fast so really tests the software. So I can't really explain why my connection was so solid but it was.

So I'm concluding for whatever reason your Drone could disconnect but just push RTH take control of the drone and try again and it will probably work!

Can confirm the same issue. Did several on-the-fly missions (path) successfully. However on the last one, while heading to the first waypoint, the mission got stuck, and I couldn't take control of the drone using the sticks. I switched to DJI Fly app, and while it connected, I still couldn't control the drone. I then initiated a RTH through the controller button, and the drone started landing instead of going home first. In the missions list, all the missions are either completed or aborted, but this last one is stuck at 0%. To be honest, I wouldn't mind missions getting stuck, but I do mind not being able to take control, or at least having it return home by default

aaalsaleh when you pushed RTH was the drone less than 20m away? DJI hard wired their drones to auto land rather than RTH when less than 20m away but you can cancel the RTH and then take control (thank goodness!) Good to hear you are having the same random freeze. I wonder what the cause is? Given I took my controller right next to quite a strong wifi router and well inside my house and couldn't fault the connection I'm not so sure wifi interference is the issue?  Were you in an urban or rural environment?

Not sure, as it was a flat empty park, and I kept moving around. I would say it was most likely more than 20m away from initial takeoff
