Karel - the Note 3 is a 6-7 year old device. Might need to upgrade to a newer Android or iPhone for it to work effectively with Dronelink...
The minimum system requirements (including Android version) are listed here:
https://support.dronelink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025829933-What-are-the-system-requirements-
Same here. I have downloaded APK from dronelink server (....-v8a-release.apk). Installed on Pixel XL (Android 10.0, latest build) but doesn't work (doesn't open at all). Attempted to install on Samsung tablet (Android 8.1.0) but it says 'not installed'. I haven't got any more devices to try. Also app says it's a 'staging' version during install.
Dronelink does not work on Android X yet because of a DJI SDK bug.
Same here... App not installed error on Android 8.1... 😕
There are several FAQs that discuss various aspects of installing and running Dronelink on Android. If you feel like you have tried everything that is listed and yet it should be working, we need more details to be able to help you.
Hi Jim,
I appreciate that we don't pay for this service and app and you have more important priorities on your list but don't you think it's a bit struggle for the users to even try to use dronelink? I can't install it at all, many users experience the same problem. App isn't even available via Google Play store which would probably make everyone feel safer about security aspect.
I'm trying to establish what I'm going to use (app / service) and pay for in terms of autonomous flights but I'm not even able to try dronelink despite owning 2 Android devices. Maybe you could make the links to the instructions more available / accessible - for example please post it here to help users?
Thanks for understanding.
J.
If you click on the hamburger menu in the web app (or the native app), support is an option:
From there FAQ is an option:
You can also just do a search for "Android" and see all the relevant articles:
Not trying to be rude here but I'm not sure how much more discoverable I can make it. Again, if the existing content doesn't cover your case, please post more specific details (screenshots, error messages, steps to reproduce etc).
Not trying to be rude here but none of the articles here helps really.
That leaves me with the community. I haven't found any useful information how to overcome the issues. I found the post with debugging which is always very good thing to do to fix issues.
Do you test your app, have you got this stage in your release process? Is there a list of the devices that are 100% compatible? I could try to borrow one from my friends etc.
Thanks
Here is the screenshot
As you correctly stated, distributing the APK is not the ideal solution and comes along with more pain like you are experiencing. The web app indicates this when you click the Android option:
Of course we test our own app, and we would not release it if it didn't even install for us. Listing the entire list of compatible Android devices is not practical, and this is the whole point of using Google Play for distribution. We want to get to Google Play distribution as fast as possible, but the issue is now linked to support for Android X. DJI is currently investigating yet another issue that is blocking this here (if you really want details):
https://github.com/dji-sdk/Mobile-SDK-Android/issues/446
Having said that, our primary test devices are Crystal Sky, Smart Controller, Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e, Levono Tab 4, and a Galaxy S7. The current APK works on all of these devices for us.
If you haven't installed APKs directly before, you may need to go to your device's security settings and allow installation from unknown sources.
Thanks for your quick response. Of course I have allowed to install apk from unknown sources, otherwise the installation process wouldn't even start and the screenshot I have posted above is the result of the installation process.
I guess I have few options left now:
Sadly you are probably right. We can't invest the time and energy into a path that is effectively a dead-end. Since we can't reproduce the issue on any of our devices it would literally mean buying every single device that a customer reports issues with and testing them one-by-one. The way forward here is Google Play distribution, which also gets Android X support, which is blocked until DJI corrects the issue. Believe me we are just as frustrated as you about Android and the way it is always treated as a second-class citizen. It was our intention from the start to make Dronelink as identical as possible across iOS and Android and we are doing everything we can (within reason) to make that a reality. Thanks for hanging in there! The good news is DJI has acknowledged the issue and seems to be taking steps to resolve it.
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has been able to get the Samsung Tab A 10.1 to work with Dronelink?
I have tried to disable 'Google Play Protect' but still just get the 'App not installed' message. Maybe it is just Samsung setting blocking me from installing? The specs seem like they should work...
Hi all,
unfortunately the same on my tablet Galaxy Tab A (2016) and Motorola G5. Both with Android > 5.0.
Starts installing but cannot complete it successfully. Interestingly both have the the same ARM Cortex-A53 GPU!?
What a pity! Such a great planning app but I cannot fly the planned missions 😢
Is there some solution instead of having to buy another device?
Thank's and best regards!
Steffen
Not that I am aware of. If it makes you feel any better, your user experience on these devices would probably not be good anyway.
Thank's for your quick answer 👍
Wouldn't it be a good idea to make a list from all devices running Dronelink flawlessly?
Everybody reading this post should post his device used successfully for the flying app!
Thank you all!
Steffen
Sounds great, but hard to accomplish without crowd-sourcing it like you suggest. A good rule of thumb is to look up the processor and memory that your device has. If the processor was released in the last 2 years and it has 2gb of mem or more, you are generally good.
On the topic of testing the mobile app against the wide range of devices that's out there, have you looked into using Amazon Web Services (AWS) Device Farm?
It's intended to help developers do just that -- test against all the generally known devices. Take a look. It's inexpensive.
In the meantime, I'm trying to see why I get "X App Not Installed" on my old, reliable Samsung Galaxy J3. I'm guessing it doesn't meet the "two year" requirement, but I'm not keen on buying a new tablet or phone just to get my new dji Mavic Mini off the ground. (Well, off the ground under its own power. I could throw it across the patio, which I'm getting close to doing, but that won't be as rewarding as getting it to work).
Not of much value because the majority of testing has to be done with an actual drone connected.
I've been trying to get a small tablet to run dji-fly and dronelink on. It turns out that although there are many tablets that would appear to meet the spec - they do not because although they are built on 64 bit processors, they still run a 32 bit OS.
If you have a tablet or phone that you think should work - install one of the 64bit checker apps and it will tell you if the OS is 32 or 64 bit.
Sadly manufacturers do not state in their spec whether the OS is 32 or 64 bit.
Dronelink for Android is now on Google Play
