Start location point vs actual take off point
I'm new so may not have my terminology right but when I clicked the location to start an approach leg, I could only zoom in so far on the map (online portal). So when I started the mission, I manually flew the drone about 10' up and then started the mission. It *immediately* zipped to the left about 15' to where I assume was where I posted my pin for the location start in the portal. This scared me because if I had started the mission while it was on the ground, would it have done the same thing and potentially crashed into any obstacles between take off point and where the pin was? Is there a way around this other than raising the drone a safe height and then starting a mission?

The approach (which is a destination component) comes with a default altitude range setting that prevents this from happening:
In this case it means, ascend to 435 feet (15 below 450) before the drone is allowed to move horizontally toward the destination. You can hover over the Altitude Range label in the editor to see a tooltip with more details about this.
I must not be explaining this right then. My approach height was 150'. I took off manually and hovered around 10' and started the mission. Then the drone flew immediately left about 10' and then up to the 150' and then to the approach point. I took this to mean that when I dropped the initial pin for takeoff (start the mission planning?) that the drone thought it should be at that point when starting the mission, which it wasn't by about 10'.
Hope this makes sense, I'm trying to understand what else would have caused it to immediately swoop to my left and then up and toward the approach direction.
Can you send a link to the mission plan?
sent to your email.
Didn't see a link to the mission plan. Did this happen when you were resuming the mission or starting it for the first time. If the first time, are you able to reproduce it?
STarting it the first time. I shared it with you.
The drone should fly straight up first. I will do a flight test today to confirm. If you can reproduce the bug let me know.
