How to Set RAW Photo Format in Pano Mission Components?

Daniel Snyder

Hello,

I need to take "RAW" picture format for a set of Pano pictures.   Can I set this in each of the Pano components with the PHOTO TYPE Setting?   Which Value then to use?  Is there a list of what each PHOTO TYPE setting produces?

It’s under camera “photo file format” Just set the camera at the beginning of the plan with a list with whatever settings you need. Of course you can set it in the DJI app first as well. I saw the other post on that old tread as well and the only functions which will work are what the DJI firmware allows. Basically the only camera settings which will work are the same as when using the DJI app. Most drones can capture in JPEG + RAW or JPEG, but not just RAW. That may be why.

Yeah that's what the Mini 2 is, so I just set it to JPEG  in the DJI Fly app and leave it alone

Martin and Mike - Thanks.  I wound up setting RAW + JPEG in the DJI settings directly since DL would not cooperate at the component level.    I am perplexed that the PANO Component offers "Photo Type" as a selection, Mare generally there seems to be no documentation of Photo Types at the component level. Oh for an explanation of each type!  They sure look interesting.

Update. I was flying my Air 3 and checked in the DJI app settings out of curiosity and I noticed I can select both or Raw or JPEG only. So it seems like the Mavic 3E as well as some newer drones can capture in just RAW file format. Try it by either setting it first in the DJI App since settings stick or just add a camera list with Camera photo file format set to RAW at the very beginning of mission card. The photo type should be set to single in the panorama component. Give that a try Daniel and see if it works. Unless the DJI SDK doesn’t allow RAW only I would think it should work.

The command you are looking for is called photo file format.

Mike,  I'll do the "RAW Burst" setting it in my M3E for the PANO Component.   Jim,  I know I can set a Photo "File Format" Command before the Pano Component.  What I was trying to do / understand is not that. It's in the PANO Component itself - where "Photo Type" is a field with the listed options - RAW Burst, HDR, etc. beings some of the options.  Do you know how/if THAT works there?   Perhaps there is some documentation or explanation?   I've searched but found nothing.

PS:  Jim - My client nearly rejected my first pano set.  He said to only fly Panos with the DJI App not another app.  How on earth could he tell the difference if DL or DJI produced the Raw photos?  Does DL somehow shoot more or less photos for a Pano than DJI?   Somehow he could tell the difference.   I think we all want identical results using DL, but what would be the difference he could detect?   Are DL Pano's deficient to DJI produced ones?

The Pano component is letting you choose the photo type, not the file formats. For example, you can take an HDR photo, and it can be saved as either JPEG, RAW, or both file formats, depending on what file format the camera is currently set to use. As Mike stated, all these camera settings carry over, so whatever the last setting was before the Pano runs is what the camera will do. If you add the file format command before the Pano, the same logic applies, and this counts for all camera settings (exposure, etc).

As for the DJI panos, I believe they capture the images in columns rather than rows, which is totally possible to do, but you will need to create your own component like this: https://app.dronelink.com/dronelink/core/component/TG5zYSiJLtfS4CA6JBxb

Of course, that component captures logical rows, but it can be modified to use columns instead.
