Can I use Dronelink with regular RC or just mobile phone?

I recently purchased a DJI Mini 3 and was a bit surprised it doesn't come with an option to follow me around. Then I saw a video on YT that displayed such function through Dronelink.

 

But before I buy the app, I would like to know if I can use it at all. I have only the regular RC controller (the one with display). From what I understand, I need the RC to which I must attach a mobile phone. So, my question is: is my RC supported? If not, can I fly the drone only through my mobile device?
