Automatic Control Interrupted

Gary Loyd

I got a drone job this weekend, checked airspace as always, looked good and drove out (98 miles) for the work. I had prepared two waypoint and one mapping mission in Dronelink. When I launched the first mission, Dronelink halted the mission with this message: "Automatic Control Interrupted. The drone must remain in P-GPS Flight Mode for automatic control." I was able to fly the missions manually and when I got back I looked this up (had never seen this message). It has to do with unlocking the drone for airspace.

Below is a screenshot of the airspace report at the location. I even checked with Kevin at Aloft to be sure I was not missing something. He agreed there was no authorizations necessary for the location.

I need to know how to avoid this. Please advise.

It’s not just about restricted airspace, it could be any of the other indicated issues in the DL help article. If you flew it manually with the app then it was more than likely one or more of them. One of the most common issues is the controllers flight mode position, (speed mode) is not in normal “P” position. If it is in Cine/Tripod Or Sport then it will not be able to fly a mission. This is probably why you were able to fly manually as any position will work when not flying a mission.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the mode switch immediately. It was in normal position. (Still is, just checked.) Landed, checked settings in DJI Fly, force stopped DJI Fly, and tried again, but with a different mission, with same results. I'll read through the help article.

What drone and device ? Also, have you flown any other missions in a different area without issues ?

DJI Air 2S and running Dronelink on a Galaxy Tab A9+. Yes, I have flown mapping missions in other areas on this setup without issue.

After my original post, and reading you first reply, I decided to plan and fly a quick mission over a local park. Drone took off, and just as it started the mission it aborted. Why? There was a manned aircraft approaching and the A2S has the "Airsense" feature (or whatever it's called). I landed, waited for the condition to resolve, and flew the mission successfully.

So, yes, other issues can cause this. Always learning! Thanks for the help.

Also make sure that you don't have the system set to Bypass.  That can cause intermittent problems - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it starts and then stops.  Just make sure it is on Brake

Yeah any other messages will help to understand why it’s happening. If it indicates APAS in the top bar and/ or j a message then that is always the OA. If you look in the Web app at your flown missions it may indicate the error on the failed ones. I’ve rarely had this happen with my MA2 when bypass is on but it’s been an issue which happens for no know reason since I started using DL over three years ago. If the APAS error comes up again you can wait a few seconds and click the start button again and it may start. If it doesn’t then you will need to turn it to brake or off. I’d just turn it off unless there is a specific reason you would need it.The air sense won’t cause this to happen though, that’s just a warning system so that was not the issue. Enjoy.
