setting negative drone heading values when adding waypoints and/or reversing an existing flight plan

DUNCAN WILSON

Hey,

I've just started exploring the desktop editor to see if I can get my existing flight plans executed more efficiently, and I'm pulling my hair out trying to do it.

What I'd like to do is take an existing flight plan, reverse it, and then add it to the forward executed mission, meaning I can take video on the forward trip, and photos on the way back.

Can I reverse an existing flight plan, seems like a simple thing to be able to do.

Secondly, because I cant see how to do that, I've tried adding way points onto the existing plan, placing them over the existing ones in reverse order and changing gimbal tilt, drone heading and altitude to suit. I can't even seem to do that though, if I try and enter a negative figure in drone heading it reverts to 0. I understand I could put in a positive value, but does that mean the drone will be constantly turning clockwise to get any position? Or will it just take the shortest direction?

No you cannot reverse run the mission and it is not that easy or DL would have added this requested feature a long time ago, If you share the plan I’m sure a few here can help to set up a second component which runs in opposite direction. As far as the drone heading, only positive values can be used from 0 to 359 just like with a compass. I use headings a good amount of the time so if wanting to rotate to the port/left side of the aircraft would input something like 340 or 290 etc. Obviously 0 is forward, 90 is right, 180 is flying backwards and 270 is 90° to the left. The drone will rotate to the heading set but not always clockwise. Usually the direction of the closest heading. If you want help with your plan then please share it. Enjoy.

Thanks Mike, knowing the drone will rotate in the direction of the closest heading is helpful. Any idea why it's not so easy to reverse a mission? To a simp like me it just seems a matter of flipping the order in which the way points run.

DUNCAN WILSON, can you share a mission that you'd like to do this with, as I have an Idea

I just copy it and spin it around the other way (rename it). Pretty easy. Took me a while to figure that out. But I'm not that smart. I bought a drone.

Exactly Rick. If it’s is mostly straight or even with some minor curving then just doing what you did is the easiest way. Then adjust as needed. Also you can select any component from a plan and either embed it in a list first which is nice or just save it into a Repo as a component to use over and over. Great way to have an already set up component to use in any other plan and you can do this with any of them like a Map, Orbit or Paths etc. DL is so incredible and powerful with so much to learn it takes time understand a lot of it.

As far as reversing the mission I know this has been requested before as a new feature. I’m sure Jim has a very long list of many other different feature requests and this particular feature has only been requested by maybe a few pilots. I’m sure if it was easy Jim and his team would have gotten it done by now. I don’t work or speak for DL but they must prioritize the features based on what the need would be. Im guessing less than 1% of pilots would even use it. It was the same with Onboard Waypoints which so many asked for and after all the time and effort spent to get that feature added less than 1% even use it and most drones don’t even have the capability. I would rather have them continue to add all new compatible drones and other functions and features which a larger percentage of pilots would use. I’ve been using DL for about 3-1/2 years now and the functions and features which have been added along with the newest UI which is so much better then the older one I’ll take all of this over a small feature which isn’t really needed. Anyway, just some info and my thoughts about that feature. Good luck and enjoy.
