Action on finish - return to home not initiating
I recently flew a map mission and the Action on finish RTH failed to initiate, so I have been testing the RTH action on finish command by flying this short mission. The first time I ran it, the drone completed the mission and the RTH was initiated. In the subsequent flights the RTH failed to initiate. I have attached the mission plan. I am flying the Air 2s using the DJI RC Pro.

The issue appears to be related to the RC Pro as the mission runs perfectly using the RCN1 with my iphone 13 Pro Max and she announces the start and completion of mission where she does not using the RC Pro.
The Dronelink version I am running on the RC Pro was downloaded directly from the Dronelink download page choosing the Air 2s as the aircraft and the RC Pro as the controller
The Dronelink version I am running on the RCN1 was downloaded from the Apple App store

Can you post a screen recording?
I will run the mission right now, screen record and then post... should only take a couple of minutes
Jim,
I have the screen recording ready what is the best way to post to thread?
I noticed most post a link to a youtube video, if this is the preferred method, please let me know and I will post to my youtube channel and provide a link.
That is fine.
Here's the link: https://youtu.be/4hkQFZZZ7A0
It says private.
The link to your plan isn’t working to check if RTH on finish is selected. I did access the video and when the mission is finished it is above the home-point. Anytime the drone is within a certain distance of home-point it will react differently. When with 5 meters of home-point it will usually just land however, some drones have the smart RTH which waits with a prompt in the DJI app for pilot to select what to do. I’m guessing this is what’s happening and the DL app does not have this feature. Check the DJI manuel for more info. There is a lot of different behaviors for RTH. It will RTH and land as long as it’s a fair distance away based on the specs. Try with a farther distance from home-point and I’m confident it will return. Enjoy.
Are you sure you’re looking at same video because the end of mission is not above home point and as I stated the mission runs fine on the RCn1. Also I have run other missions where end of mission is even further away than in this mission with same results. The mission is switching to manual mode at end of mission. I don’t believe should be happening. I’m hoping Jim can determine if this is a program bug.
You only have one video and it indicates within 41’. If there is an issue specifically with the Pro controller then maybe DL can help. Sone drones react differently when between 5 to 20 meters. As I stated, I’d look over the manual fur all the RTH states. Just some info to consider.
My apologies, I had the mission plan in a private repository, I have moved it to a public repository, here is the link:

If it is triggering RTH on the exact same plan from about 30 to 40’ with the RC-N1 then I’m just guessing but maybe it’s something to do with in the DJI Fly app settings on the RC Pro. All the RTH at end of plan does is triggers the drones firmware to return. DL does not control the drones behavior once triggered. If there is a DL issue I’m sure they will look into it. I know with my MA2 using an iPad it will not return when very close and just hovers or lands depending on distance. I can run that mission with my MA2 just to see what happens if you want. I may try later if the 30+ winds calm down. I am curious to see how it works. As I mentioned if it is an issue I’m sure Jim will advise. Enjoy.
Mike,
I would agree with you however, pressing the virtual RTH button on the DL dashboard at the end of the mission, initiates a return to home, so it most likely has something to do with the code within the RC Pro download, where the RTH command is not being sent to the controller. I would love to hear from other DL users who are using the RC Pro to see if they are experiencing the same issues. I read one post where the DL user using the RC Pro experienced the no audible mission start and end announcements as I do but said nothing about the RTH fail. Also, thank you for all your input it is much appreciated and we have the same 30mph winds where I am...lol
Understood. It is possible it’s the way the controller works which is different. Good luck.
We will test it on Monday.
Thanks Jim
I think I had this happen to me earlier today with my mini2 and RC-N1, if i get a chance I'll do some tests tomorrow
Hey Martin, I noticed you successfully uploaded an image to the feature photo page and was wondering if you would share how you did this? I know Mike (Arizona Wyldwest) was also looking for the answer.
Thanks,
Joe D
Hi Ghost1917, I just followed the instructions that Jacob Rachniowski posted here https://support.dronelink.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/17579638646547
Martin,
Yes I attempted to follow those instructions but this was the problem:
I understand the photo should have a resolution of at least 2000px by 2000px but uploaded images cannot be larger than 2MB. I noticed other member's images had a rendered size under 2MB but also retained the intrinsic resolution when posting. So how did you accomplish this?
Joe D
On the RTH issue: this appears to be an issue with the RC Pro + Air2S only. I tested it with the RC-N1 and everything worked as expected. Will add it to the backlog.
Separate note: what Mike said about proximity to the home point does matter, but it is a separate issue and not under our control. Regardless of how RTH gets initiated (either by the mission automatically at the end - which isn't working on the RC Pro, or by the operator by using the onscreen button), if you are too close to the home point, the onboard DJI firmware will just initiate an auto-land in place command instead (not our choice). The mission is using the same underlying API to initiate the RTH, so there must be a timing issue where using that API too soon after virtual stick on the RC Pro just doesn't work for some reason.
Thanks for the follow up Jim, not a big deal having to hit the RTH on screen button. Also just to update you, I ran a couple of missions yesterday and on the one mission where the drone was 495ft away from the home point, the RTH auto initiated at the end of the mission and the drone returned to its home point. On the second mission where the drone was 226ft away from the home point, RTH was not auto initiated. I will continue testing the RTH thresholds and keep you updated.
Joe D
To be clear, I think the failure to initiate is a timing issue, not related to how close or far it is from the home point. The proximity to the home point just determines what type of RTH will be initiated if it succeeds (land in place vs real RTH).
Got it, that makes sense, and thanks for all the feedback and for a great product.
Other than the RC Pro issue at this time the RTH behavior is indicated in the DJI manual as I mentioned. For future reference here is screen shot of the Air 2S RTH behavior when it does trigger. Enjoy.
Thanks Mike
