Unable to change settings or save new mapping plans properly - (reproduced on Mac OS 14.2.1 and iOS 17.2.1)

Mike Stratford

Hi

I've used the web and iOS app recently with no major issues but this morning I am unable to make and save changes to new plans.

Here's a screen recording from Mac OS with the same reproduced via the iPhone app.

Reproduced on Mac OS 14.2.1 and iOS 17.2.1.

Many thanks,

Mike

Looking at that, it seems as though the Mac is really slow to react to commands, I've not seen anything similar on PC, what browser are you using, maybe try using Firefox,at that I'll have to hand over to someone who uses Mac and iOS as I'm an Android and PC man

Thanks Martin, I was using Safari on Mac and the native iOS Dronelink app. It’s an M1 MacBook Pro 16GB with nothing else runnning.

I’ve just reproduced on a brand new PC in chrome browser. Windows 11 Pro.

I’ve tested on the same PC in Edge and after initially thinking I’d had one save successfully I’m now getting the same behaviour on edge too.

    Thanks

Hi Mike, just had a quick play with Waterfox mobile on my galaxy fold Z4, while sat down the local park, everything good, wondering if maybe a network problem of some sort

Thanks Martin. No internet issues if that’s what you mean, maybe something specific to my account if can’t be reproduced more widely - but I’ve tried from multiple devices / browsers / OS. Have also tried in private browsing and after clearing cache etc.

This has been discussed before and I don’t believe it is the DL Web app. If plans aren’t saving it’s usually do to something in the Website data and /or browsing history, cache, cookies etc. I’d go into the data management and delete everything to include all the Website data then reboot the device. When you change anything in a plan the window will pop up and ask to either save as current version or new version. If that isn’t popping up then it wont save. Im having no issue. If you don’t clear out everything on any of your devices in quite awhile it may be the cause. I routinely clean out all my devices or PC just because they gather a lot of junk. Give it a try and let someone know if it continues.

Thanks Mike, yep that was all done as well as private browsing, testing on a PC that had never been used on DL & now trying it on my wife’s device who has never even heard of Dronelink. This isn’t caching and occurred right after a notification after login that said a kernel update had been done.

Ok Mike. This is very strange since it is with different devices. I’m just going to stick with the issue with using any of those IOS devices. Let’s see if we can figure out a solution for just the IOS. First I’d log out of both the DL Native app and the browser Web app as well. When using the mission planner on an IOS device it utilizes the Safari browser. Did you go into the settings for Safari on the IOS device and select to clear timeframe of all. I’d also check the seperate advanced section below and check the Website data after to make sure it was all cleared out and nothing is still in there.

If you are using the Firefox browser there is a separate section in Data management above the other selections for clearing out all the Website data. Enabling all the other switches to clear that stuff out will not clear all the other additional Website data. Make make sure you go into that section as well and clear all of it. I always suggest using the Firefox browser as it has been tested to work the best with the Web app. Once you made sure you have cleared out everything including the additional Website data then power down the IOS device and power back up. Then log back into the DL Web app and see if it works. I’ve tried on my iPad 11 Pro, iPad Mini 5 and even my very old iPhone 8 Plus and no issues with Firefox or even with the Native app mission planner which utilizes Safari. Also booted up my old PC with Windows 10 with Firefox and it is working as well. If you’re absolutely sure you have already dug down deep into all the additional Web data on the IOS device and cleared all of it then I’m not sure what else to suggest. I’ve had this happened to me about 6 times over three years and after clearing everything out it was fixed.

Editing this to add that in those rare case for me just powering down my iPad and powering it back up may have fixed it but not absolutely sure. May try that.

    Thanks Mike.

This afternoon it’s all returned to normal, no further intervention and have tried on several of the devices and all now working as expected.

I spoke with the ISP engineers who confirmed there was recursive DNS caching in play but that it was upstream from the ISP, so looks like the caches have now refreshed and all is working normally again.

Would probably help if the JS files were versioned in each release as sounds like the app is generally susceptible to caching related issues from what you say.

A bit more info which will help in the future. If that message to save as current version or start a new version doesn’t pop up after making changes it will not save. Best thing to do in that case is to not exit the plan yet and go to the settings section and select copy mission. It will then save that plan exactly as you have it with the changes you made and you will not lose all the work you did. Not sure why other then it is copying it as it currently is and must be different then saving when exiting the plan due to the caching issues. Even though this is rare and you now know why and how to fix it this is something to be aware. It will save you from having headaches losing all the work. I almost always copy my plans regardless so I have at least one maybe two back ups. Good insurance and there is no limit on how many Repos and Plans you can have. Good luck and Enjoy.
