This should help with the battery question.

The mission preview can only estimate the flight time from the take-off to completion of the mission. There is no way to estimate the return time became it would depend on which aircraft, wind and the distance from the completion of mission back to take-off location.

This is one reason I try and finish the mission, close to the take off location/home point, or the other option is set the dynamic home point option, and towards the end of the mission, walk towards the mission end point so the done doesn't have as far to come home once the mission is over.

I also keep an on the drones position during the mission when it's getting close to a battery change and might bring it in to change the battery slightly early if its relatively close

I finish my missions close to Take-off as well. It will depend on the drone as I mentioned but my MA2 which RTH at about 23 to 25 mph takes about 30 seconds or so to home-point from about 1,300 feet which is about 1/4 mile then the landing time from there. This has been asked several times over the years and I’m not sure why it matters. If there is some reason to know the entire flight time from take-off till its landed then using Airdata will show the entire flight time including return to home-point and the auto landing time.

You could easily add a checkpoint close to the takeoff location. In that case, the flight back to the checkpoint would be included in the calculation.

Great suggestion Barry Houldsworth, if doing this I'd make sure that the Checkpoints altitude is set at the same as the RTH height
