DJI Mini 3 Pro - Setting altitude above 120m causes an error

Karl

Hardware and software

  • DJI Mini 3 Pro
  • RC-N1 controller
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 6
  • Dronelink beta software downloaded from the website (3 days ago)

Environment

  • manual mode in Dronelink
  • DJI Fly app has been force closed beforce launching the Dronelink-app
  • elite plan

The issue

When setting the max. altitude in the Dronelink-app above 120 I get an error: INVALID_PARAM.
Setting the max. altitude below 120m works fine.

Setting the max. altitude in the DJI Fly app works without any problem.

Side note

My use case is to create a map of a mountain. The mountain is about 200m high. The starting point is at the foot of the mountain.

Since 01.01.2024 a classification is mandatory for all drones in the EU. For drones under 250g it is class C0.

This means that there is a maximum height of 120m above the take-off point.

However, the DJI Mini 3 Pro is "classified" as a stock drone as it has no classification (sold before 01.01.2024) and there is a limit of 120m above ground.

My understanding is that, in Europe, mini 3 pro sold before 2024 have no limit. I will ask for confirmation and give it a try to see how it works really (knowing that I apply all dji updates).

Observations on Mini 3 Pro as of January 26th with latest fw and on RC-N1 controller w DJI fly app version 1.12.8 there's no whatsoever 120m AGL height limit imposed by DJI.

However this is active on Mini 4 Pro since January 1st unless declassified OR by using DroneTweaks app on mobile devices that circumvent the limit since the aircraft will be led to believe it's in the north Americas even allowing FCC radio signal strength mode between AC and RC. PERIOD

Hi, is the 120m limit fixed inside the final version of DL ?

Patrick. There is no fix to be done as the drone works as it should based on the DJI SDK. Read the above post which Jim gave a link to. It is DJI which controls this, not DL. Contact them. Good luck.

Hi Mike, that means DL work actual with MSDK V5.8.0 . I understand but why do DL not ask DJI fix this behavior because it is wrong with M3P and limit the usage !

DJI might have to do things this way due to the maximum height allowed in certain countries that it exports the drones too

Yes, that applies to the Mini 4 in the EU, but not to the M3P . with their own app they allow height over 120m ´.

in the EU if you pass the m3p to class C0, the maximum height is set at 120 m above the takeoff altitude (not above the ground unlike class c1)

    But M3P is not a C0 Drone !

Here in the UK, the maximum height for all drones is 400 feet, now whether that's above take off point or ground level is pretty much immaterial as I'm sure DJI are going to set it to lower end so as theirs no chance of a pilot breaking the law, or that's how I'd read the situation

indeed but you can promote M3P to C0 by requesting DJI (for the moment no upgrade to C1 available)

    Mini 4 can be ´no classification´, C0 or C1.

    Mini 3 pro can be ´no classification´, or C0, soon C1.

Firmware are to be adapted according to the classification (height limit, remote id, ...), stickers to be added, removed, etc etc

A nightmare  for Dji and 3rd parties.

Main advantage of these stup***  rules  is that they provide workload for many (many) people.

It doesn’t matter what drone, what class or what regulations when it comes to the DL app. As Jim explained as well as others the MSDK (software) which all third party apps use is the same. So whether DJI allows it or not has nothing to do with the DL app. DJI is the company which controls this for whatever reason and people should contact DJI. I’m not trying to stir things up but this has been asked and answered many times. Continuing to create new threads and adding more comments won’t change the DL app. This is a DJI issue, not DL and there is a lot of DJI Forum threads about this which you can check and give your thoughts.

Hi, does the new SDK Update 2024-06-11 fix the problem with 120m hight limit in EU ?

-> On both Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro, KeyHeightLimitRange could not acquire the range: Fixed

We aren’t able to test this as we aren’t in the EU.

I was able to test the Mini 3 Pro again after a long time. The latest version of DL is installed under Android 14. With the Planner on the PC or the app, I can set an altitude for the mapping, e.g. 150m, and there is no error message. But when I start the mission, the drone stops at 120m and an orange message appears that I am close to the maximum altitude. Then nothing happens, the drone just stops at that point and altitude. I haven't found a setting where you can confirm the limit like you can in the DJI Fly app. In addition, the Mini 3 Pro has no limit at all in the EU! Is it because of the DLL ?

It doesn’t matter what altitude you can set in the Web app. The drone will only be able to reach 120m which has been explained in this thread as well as the link from Jim above. It’s a DJI limitation in their SDK, not DL. You can try to set it in the DJI Fly app first to see if it will stick but from all the other info, it won’t due to the DJI limitation.

No chance, I can climb to 150m with the Fly app, then when I open DL the drone drops back down to 120m and the mission doesn't start because the altitude doesn't fit. I can understand that DL is not responsible for this, but DL could complain about the bug at DJI because the restrictions for the Mini 3 pro do not apply in the EU.
