Mission parts restart

Justin Merrill

2 Part question:

Is there a way to re run a part of a mission if parameters need to be changed? Example:

Mission includes map, orbit, waypoint. During the orbit the camera angle is off. Can you re run just the orbit part of the mission without having to separately save it as a component and running it after the rest of the mission runs?

Second question. Is there a manual or a download that lists and defines all of the commands that are available? As in all the camera commands.

I think the easiest way is opening that plan and make a copy first so you still have the original. Then select the other components and delete them and leave only the Orbit. Now it will fly just the Orbit exactly as you set up it up in the same location. The camera commands like ISO, Shutter, FR, Resolution etc, are no different than when using the DJI app only those which your drone supports will work. Do you have a specific camera command question ?

Just looking for a guide with definitions is all. All the normal camera functions I get, but I’ve had errors trying to set settings and the mission instantly fails. Like where to put in stop capture and start capture etc

Justin Merrill, I'd suggest you give these videos by Barry Houldsworth a look

Very generally speaking if you aren't using auto capture within the project, then put the start capture command right at the start of the mission, and the end capture right at the end after the last component

    For the first question.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to re-run just one element of a mission.  For that reason I often recommend to people that they split up larger missions into several smaller ones so that they can re-run sections.  I believe there is something on the wish list to allow missions to be stacked, so that you can automatically run them one after the other.  Jim McAndrew would know more about that than I would.

Have a look at the playlist that Martin Reading shared.  There is a video covering versions and backups.  If you need to edit then those can help you avoid losing the original mission.

For the second part, the order of commands is important, and you need to know how one affects the other.  For example, if you have auto everything set, and then try to change the ISO, it will fail because that is being controlled by the auto setting. Sometimes, re-running it will work though.  Or you can make the commands not required, which means it won't fail if it can't be performed, but then you run the risk of not having the camera setting you need.

I have on my list a future video to go through the order of operations to show which ones will cause problems and I'll get to that one day.  Until then, check out the video (also in that playlist) called setup missions.  This can help you test camera settings, etc. before you get out into the field.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Justin. I hope the info on how to run just the Orbit helped. It is the only way to run that exact component only again and easy and quick to do. There is no manual which explains every command and where it goes but I’ll try to assist. You need to set the camera in the same order as you do when using the DJI app. So select camera mode to photo or video. Then set from there whether single or interval photos or video resolution & FR. Then ISO, Shutter, White Balance etc.

Here is a basic list with common commands for photos and videos. The order you place them in can be important as you have noticed and DL may give a warning at the top of the mission card.

    Video Component List:
    Camera Stop Capture
    Camera Mode: Video
    Exposure Mode: Manual
    ISO
    Shutter Speed
    White Balance: Auto or Custom
    Video Resolution & Frame Rate

    Photo Component List:
    Camera Stop Capture
    Camera Mode: Photo
Camera Photo Type: Single, Intervals, AEB etc.
Camera Photo Intervals: Secs. (If intervals is selected)
    Exposure Mode: Manual
    ISO
    Shutter Speed
    White Balance: Auto or Custom

Now that the camera is set you can start or stop capture at any point in the mission with a command or manually. If set to Auto exposure then just like when using the DJI app you can’t set some of the values as the auto exposure controls them. Many pilots here to assist you so feel free to ask. Hope this helps. Enjoy.
