Imported KML-file for orbit appears on wrong position

Per Pettersson

Iv'e tried to create circles and organize my orbit flights i Qgis for a good overview. When exporting an individual circle, in the correct coordinat system WGS 84 and choosing the option to create an orbit in Dronelink, the orbit is created a few hundred meters off and in wrong size.

Anyone had this issue before and know the cause?

Thanks for any input! /Per P

Can you please provide an example file?

Here is one of my try-outs:

    The orange-ish circle is what I've drawn i Q-gis

When you import this KML as an Orbit, the code just takes the first coordinate as the center point in the list of coordinates in the LinearRing element inside of the Polygon element. The best you can hope for when importing Orbits right now is just putting a pin where you want the center and then adjusting the radius after import. Moving this one to feature requests.

I get it, thanks a lot for checking an explaining. I'll try to work with centre points on my circles in Q-gis.

Maybe there is another way to show a selection of flight areas directly in Dronelink? Would it be posible to import a set of areas as a KML-file? That would reduce the need of mapping everything twice for overwiev and planning in another GIS-application.

Hi Per Pettersson, not sure if this might help answer your question

Thank you Martin! Yes, I just realized I can export all or any of my flight areas drawn in Q-gis as an KML-file and add it to the base map in Dronelink. It certanly makes planning of upcoming projects easier, seeing what has already been flewn.

It's a pity though that the added layer to the basemap is not possible to keep and toggle on and off. But that might be asking too much? :-)

All the best and keep flying "low and slow"!

Hi again Per Pettersson, if you are talking about what I think you are, then check this out:

Click on 3 dots bottom right

    Then click on add layer

    Select your KML/KMZ file

    And there you have it

Hope this helped, and happy flying

It is a fine ask, just a question of when we will have time to get around to it :)

Nice with the added layer function. How do can I remove layers if they are imported?
