Understanding "Hover"

Tim B

I want to create a mission recording video that flies along a stream, -90° view. Along the way I want to pause over various locations for 15/20 seconds where there's been some storm damage. After each pause, continue on for the rest of the mission. Sounds like adding "Hovers" on the way will enable me to do just that. I assume that the video will simply continue on after the time specified at each Hover? Any suggestions for setting up this kind of mission?  Thanks!

A friend suggested I could just do a freeze frame in post, but that would look pretty strange-- to have the flow of water just STOP. :-)

Adding a Hover at a Waypoint or Path Action will split the Waypoint missions into 2 parts with a Hover Mission Component added in between 2 Waypoint mission components.

Ok, here's how I'd set it up:

    1.  start your mission with a list that contains the 3 following commands, Camera Stop Capture, Camera Mode - video, Camera Start Capture
    2. Insert your waypoints component and edit it to follow  the stream, also check that auto capture is turned  off on this waypoints component.
    3. set the gimbal orientation at waypoint A to -90
    4. Insert "Path Actions" at the points you want the hovers to be, the reason for using path actions here is until you apply the hover , you can slide them back and forth to get them in the exact position you want
    5. Apply hover to each of these path actions, and set the hover duration you want for each of them
    6. Add a Camera stop capture command to the end of the mission

here is a very simple mission created like this https://app.dronelink.com/martin-reading/kingsmead/plan/c3yr2LFP6w3FLK1i2Bfg

Martin - you beat me to it!  What can I tell you - I can't sleep!

I set up a similar mission - but I made two versions, each in a list.  One has auto capture on everything - that will create several video files (you can see that if you run the simulation).

The second one does exactly what you did, starts the camera before the components, and that creates just one video file.

Not sure if Tim wanted multiple or not - both are good solutions depending on need.

That's nicely put together Barry Houldsworth, I too looked at the auto capture on everything option, before going for the manual version.

I reckon that manual capture list is the most used component I've got on my clipboard

If you are just flying point to point, you can also just use Checkpoints.

Thanks guys-- true what they say about "great minds".  :)

Took me a bit to understand how things were broken up into multiple segments but once the light bulb went off-- simple enough. I will endeavor to carry out a mission using your examples as a guide. Thanks much.

Uh... one more request. Would it be possible to create a component to make it STOP RAINING?! Definitely getting in the way of my best laid plans...
