Beta test: Mini 3 Pro & Samsung S8 tablet
Afternoon, I have downloaded and created a map mission using your beta app on a Samsung S8 tablet (purchased 2 months ago). After downloading all necessary apps and connecting to all devices, drone as well, I began my map mission over an apt complex. 2 lines of the grid were completed. App crashed on 3rd line of map grid. No eyes in the sky so I hit pause on my RC-N1 remote and then clicked RTH. In the future, shall I hit pause on my remote, load the app and continue mission or click abort? Will the mission begin again from where it left off or start all over? Concerned with battery percentage. Please advise. Will to try tomorrow.

Any partially flown mission can be resumed at a later time. Once you have the app back up and working just go to the missions tab at bottom of mission card and select the one you want to finish and resume. It should be able to continue from where you are hovering and resume from last point. You can RTH but not necessary. It will fly back to the last spot in was paused and should finish the mission as long as there are no further issues. Also depending on the duration of the plan you can always RTH and change the battery at any point. Doesn’t need to go down to the roughly 20% and trigger the low battery. So if the drone is close to you at some point which may work better you can land and change battery then. It may save you some time overall. Enjoy.
Mike,
Happy Sunday!
Thank you for the quick reply.
I believe I understand all of your suggestions.
If the app crashes again, beta world lol, pausing the flight on my remote and then launching the app again, following your instructions, should be the right steps to take. Correct? In other words, the drone should hover when the app crashes, therefore, if I have plenty of battery, launch the app, the mission and everything should be a-ok.
Thanks Jeff
Correct. It does not need to be flown back to the take-off location. It will warn you that it’s not within the original take-off area but just click to resume and it should work. Also any mission which was not completed whether it was an issue or you decided to pause it and load another mission instead can be flown to completion on another day. All those missions will be in a blue color. Just another great feature. Only possible issue is since it’s a different day the GPS accuracy may not be the same especially if mapping but overall it works great.
Mike,
Understood. Very robust software I am starting to dive into. Are there, not sure if you know this answer, any bugs/issues with the new RC-Pro remote?
Last question. I was unaware of the choices I could choose for mini 3 pro; regular lens and shooting in 48mp. I started this mission with regular shooting. Should I abort mission, edit mission to 48mp mini 3 pro and then start the mission from the beginning? Thank you Jeff
It is a very powerful and incredible app. As most pilots say, it has a step learning curve at first but the more you use it the quicker you will understand its capabilities. I’m not sure about that controller since I don’t use it but you can look through some of the DL help articles and see if any more info. According to DL the Mini 3 Pro with the RC Pro is out of Beta so I would think it should work well and the reviews on that particular controller seem really good. Also make sure you have no other apps running in background on your current device especially the DJI Fly app. Only app which should be running is the DL app. My thoughts on using a DJI controller with screen. I can’t use any device with a small 5.5” screen anymore after having an iPad Mini 8” and now an iPad 11” Pro. For me it’s a big difference being able to see the live video feed so much better. A brighter screen is better but the size for me is just too small. Plus its quite an investment at $1,200. There are several big name manufactures which have powerful enough newer tablets using Android OS. Pilots choice of course but thought I’d give my 2 cents worth.
You will definitely need to start over if you change the photo type to shoot in 48MP. Need to edit that mission in the Web app then load the mission with those changes. Some things can be changed while running a mission depending on what type of plan. One example is of If running a path/ waypoint mission you can manually control the cameras settings or gimbal pitch but you cannot alter the altitude, speed, path and such. I don’t know which plan you purchased but in order to shoot 48MP photos in mapping you will need a professional plan as none of the Hobbyist plans are capable. I Believe a Growth or Enterprise plan is needed. Hope this helps Jeff. Enjoy.
Another Tablet user here, using Galaxy Tab 7FE so that is 12.4 inches
Mike,
Makes sense.
Needed an android to use this beta app, though, always looking for the right tool for the project. Hoping to have a couple more clients and I’ll be posting here regarding questions with the new RC Pro.
I did start over my mission, however, it crashed 6x before completing the mission, and unfortunately it did not pickup up where it left off, so I now have to find the the duplicate images before processing my ortho.
I will be upgrading. I’m interested in multiple missions over one property, which will save a bunch of time. Thanks again for your time
👍🏼. I guess it would depend on when it crashed and at what point it was saved. I would think it still should be in your missions as a paused mission and can be resumed. You may need to land it and restart everything though. Not sure what the size of your map was but always better to run smaller map sections rather than one large one as well. The Crashes are unfortunate and the most recent info is DJI won’t be releasing anything now until sometime in July. What a mess. 😡 Hang in there.
Mike,
Yes did all you suggested. Going to write a post for the beta team regarding the crashes, info and screenshots.
Yeah it’s a waiting game with DJI, new drones and all third party businesses trying to cash in on their line of drones.
Mike,
When you say that after an app crash you can resume the mission from the last saved point, in my experience the last saved point is usually between 30 sec to 1 minute prior to the crash. This causes the drone to go back to the beginning of the line, or even the middle of the previous line, and restart from there. Usually, the crash will happen often in quick succession, never saving the new positions and always returning to that one saved point, leading to 3-4 passes on the same line.
Is there a setting or option to enforce faster save points?
Antoine,
That is exactly correct.
Another comment to this subject, is finding the duplicates from the app crashes, removing them and then processing my 2D ortho.
In case anyone was wondering, I found using the photo app on my mac helpful removing duplicate photos and remembering the the time, if you’re able to catch it, and use the timeline to help remove the duplicates.
Will post results of uploaded ortho once completed
Sorry but I don’t know how it will resume a mission with all these app crashes during a mission. With all the Android app crashes it may not work perfectly but that’s something which DL would need to explain. In general when a mission is paused it will resume from the last point it stopped. Even if I get a very rare error message about something and it pauses the mission I just wait for about 10 seconds and resume to finish it. I’m assuming the crashes are causing the plan to not work perfectly. Unfortunately this will continue and I’m sure it’s frustrating but waiting on DJI. 🤪 Bummer….
fly a mission with mini 3 pro , rc n1, Lenovo M10HD, 7 waypoints, 6 POI, 6 path actions, crashed after the 2nd waypoint and the 2nd POI. Reopen the app but wasn't aware that i can resume it, so i fly it manually.

Definitely it hover up.
Micheal
Michel Cecco, you need to make that mission public to share it, by copying it to a public repository
Martin Reading should work now

The app crashes have been documented and you can check the link for info.
Plan is accessible now but what is the question? Also that device is fairly old so you may have other issues.

Hi @Mike Martin Reading , thanks for your replay.
No real question, just let you know so you can improve asap the app witch i believe is very powerful as useful.
Also yesterday i made another plan, easy 10 photo mission, did crash 4/5 times in 2 minutes plan, the plan was also downloaded in the tablet.

The tablet is not the best, but is just 2yo, and i also use it with my M210rtk (1 software crash) and Mavic Pro both using Dji Pilot.
I notice that you can't do 45degree photos unless you upgrade to the top membership, I would like this will be included as a default , 0,-45,-90 in between that may be you the upgrade is required.
