Battery level warning command

Mavic Mini   Dronelink   DjiFly

I have had the Mavic Mini for 15 months.  Previous to this wwwkwnd 11/06/2023 I have had 10 to 15 missions to map sugar cane paddocks.

I had over the time setting these missions up use the Dronelink Battery warning command to set the % limit.

This had worked as far as I knew, amd the drone had returned for a new battery once or twice as was neeed.

To help see up theses missions I had created a List of Commnds that I demined needed for each mission stored in a resportory.

Over the weekend I setup a new paddock mission and included the list of commands that I have in other missions.

This mission ws going to be pushing my battery limit so I adjusted the 30% to 15%. (New paddock is just ploughed so no real problem is drone doesn't make it home). I went to use this mission this morning and the mission control started to report problems with the limit. Returned it to 30%, still the mission control stop run and repported problems with the limit.

This time I took time to read the message without the glare of the sun and realized it was saying the command was invalid.

Remove the command from the mission and all was good. Battery change was carried out at 20%. From Dji configuration.

I has just before the weekend updated Dronelink software and Drone Firmware.

Has the battery level command been changed or removed, or is there an error somewhere.

Thank you for you continued support.

The low battery warnings will not work with the drones which use the DJI Fly app. All drones using the Fly app automatically trigger the low battery at 20% so there’s nothing you can do. The older drones which use the other DJI Apps have the ability within the app to set a low battery setting so it’s possible to set lower. I’ve done a lot of battery swaps with my MA2 and I’ve never gotten the low battery warning to work so I just let it return at the default 20%. Hope that helps.

Something else you can do is don’t let it go down to the 20%. Instead just hit RTH when it gets to 30% and it will return. Then switch the battery and hit resume once it’s ready and it will fly back to last point and resume mission the same way. You can do this at any percentage, doesn’t need to go down to the 20%. This way you will have more then enough.

Thank you for your reply, Mike.

I have used many times the battery warning to return the drone to home (RTH) for a battery change and I am impressed with the Dronelink software feature of returning to last position.

The important information that you have conveyed is that the Mavic Mini doesn't have an adjustable battery limit.

I have always had an adjust battery warning limit in a list of commands that I include in all my missions.

I have had the limit set to 20% as it sounded like a good figure. But obviously the command has never down anything for me. Over the weekend, the paddock I was mapping was a clear block, so no problem in finding the drone if it run out of battery, so I reduced the limit to 15%. Before flying, I like to do a test procedure of running Dronelink to ensure There is not an  update due. There was so I was using the latest software. This testing also revealed that there was a firmware update for the drone itself.

The problem is not the command does not carry out the function but previously to this command must have executed with causing an error and not adjusting the limit.

To my surprise on running the mission at the remote site that soon after takeoff we received the error message that the command is unsupported, and the mission was stopped.

On reading the error message correctly on the third attempt, I used a mobile phone to set up a network link so I could delete the command and reload the drone.

    This was successful.

I am assuming that the code that stops the mission is within Dronelink and my comment would be command that is not going to do anything to the operation should only give a warning not suspend the mission

Hey John. Unfortunately not all functions offered in DL app can be used by every drone. Basic rule is if it can’t be done with the DJI App then it won’t work with DL. The DL app has no way of knowing which drone your using and its capabilities so it has a lot of functions which will not work on every drone. An example is photo intervals which can only be taken at intervals which the DJI firmware allows for each drone. Hope that helps. Enjoy.

You can turn off required so it won’t fail. That goes for others as well.

Thanks for the information, but only one drone so best not to have the command at all.

When setting up the command, without knowing that the command will fail, I would choose Required as it is important so you can optimize your field time, when you have large blocks of land to cover.

oznorth, the other thing you could do is split the mission into several components based upon the estimated battery change point as shown in preview and add a disengage between each component with a message to change battery, when the message shows on screen you just hit the RTH button on the controller

As I mentioned DL has no way of knowing which drone though. If you would have disabled it the mission should have worked so that’s why I supplied the info. Best way is to research exactly what the drones is capable of with the DJI App and check the DJI Specs on their website and use only those settings, functions or features. It will save you time in the future. Enjoy…..

In regards to your comment: “I am assuming that the code that stops the mission is within Dronelink and my comment would be command that is not going to do anything to the operation should only give a warning not suspend the mission”

I’d suggest posting this on feature request thread and see if it’s even possible. Can’t hurt to try. ✌🏼
