Multi-Flight Drone Flight for Large Area

Chanel Gagnon

Hello,

I am looking for advise on mapping a large area (1.6 km^2). Should I create small plans to join up during post-processing or make one large boundary to cover the entire survey area.

To divide or not to divide?

Thanks!

Always better to run smaller maps especially if it’s a grid pattern. If I have it correct it looks like about 400 acres. The app will give a warning once you get to about 100 acres of the possible issues. You will need to swap batteries anyway so better to maybe do smaller ones with one or two swaps. Difference in flight time overall doing either batteries swaps or loading the next plan with a new battery won’t be a lot. Plus if you get several failures on a large plan which is possible it may not be able to resume and complete. Also with more smaller maps if there has an error or failure you can always re-run just one of them quicker. Hope that helps. Enjoy.

You can run all the small maps in the one mission, just make sure you've got a s light overlap on the joins

If the mission planner says the map is too large, you should split it into multiple missions.
