DJI Mini 3 - Follow

Today, I tested the FOLLOW function on my DJI Mini 3. While it worked correctly multiple times (a couple of crashes), I encountered an issue when selected the option to follow the elevation. The drone suddenly began to pitch upwards towards the sky. I repeated the test several times, but each attempt yielded the same result.

What happens when the app crashes?  What does the drone do?

    Drone just hovers.

That is true, but more importantly if it was in the middle of a mission, it will probably still be in virtual stick mode, so you still have to do this to regain control on the sticks:

I imagine the procedure described in the link resets the controller/drone connection to a DJI connection and you gain control then?

No worries, I've regained control. I just wanted to inform you about the drone's behavior when the option to follow elevation is selected. In this mode, the gimbal pitches upwards without causing an app crash. I wasn't sure if you were aware of this, so I thought I'd let you know.

Just a thought about the pitching up issue but did you set the distance far enough away. If not set to the very minimum recommend distance of 10m and if set to a high altitude above you the drone may act weird. I’ve had this happen before and have seen others with the issue. Follow mode is design to follow from behind, in front or the sides at a distance away and not with a very high altitude where the gimbal needs to pitch way down at a sharp angle to keep you in frame. I usually set up about 50’ away minimum and no more then about 100’ altitude and works well. It may not be your issue since it’s the new Mini 3 and could be something else but something to consider.

It's fully concur with what Mike said, and if you do have the drone following from behind and want it out in front of you, take the long route round the side and don't try coming over the top, either that or pause follow mode, reposition the drone and restart follow
