Using the Dronelink app.

Andrew .

This is probably a thick question so I'll apologise in advance to all those who are going to say "Dah". I would like to use Dronelink Premium with a DJI mini 2 for mapping and already use an ipad connected to the remote controller as a monitor. Am I able to plan missions on a desktop imac and transfer the missions to the ipad? Does dronelink even work on a desktop computer and if so would I have to purchase two copies of the app. I'm likely to upgrade the ipad for one with with more memory in the not too distant future and need to know if I can migrate dronelink to the new one without incurring extra cost. Finally, does the DJI Fly app. have to be running in the background? I'm a sensitive soul so please don't flame me :-)

First of all, should never have any apps running in the background especially the DJI app. Always check and make sure you force close all other apps and only running DL. It may depend on what iPad your using but most of them work great with the RC-N1 controller. Take a look at the Legacy device list to see which ones may have issues as DL needs a powerful device to run properly.

All your plans created in the Web browser app are saved in DL. So you can use any device or PC with whichever browser is supported. There are some other browsers which will work but I’d Suggest using Firefox as it works best with DL. Once you have any plan ready you just open the Native App and select it from your list. Only need to purchase one plan to use DL. Either a Hobbyist plan which is for recreational use only, or a business plan if using DL for commercial use.

Here is a link to DL article which explains what is supported and there is a lot of other articles and tutorials to help you. You can see which browsers, drones and controllers which will work. The standard controller which comes with any of the supported drones will work as well. Check the IOS Legacy device list to see which ones are not recommended.

    Andrew .

Thanks Mike for that info. Just to confirm, are you saying I would download the DL app. on my imac create a mission then having downloaded the DL app onto my mobile I should be able to login to my account on the mobile and the mission will be available there? Also, it looks from the legacy list that none of the ipads are suitable, my ipad air 2 is on the list to be avoided which is a bit of a bummer. I like the large screen of an ipad but would I be better off buying a refurbished iphone running 11 or better? I assume that is what is meant by ios 11+.

Think Mike's pretty much covered all the basics, anything you're not sure of then just come on here and ask, plenty of us around most times to answer questions, and never be surprised if you get several different answers, as with Dronelink, there's normally one way of achieving objectives

Andrew. The 11+ means the IOS software version not the model of device. As long as any IOS device has that software version or newer it will work. That’s pretty old since the newest IOS version is 16.4.1. Also you don’t  download the anything to a PC, laptop etc. You just use any of those web browsers to create missions.

As it describes in the link you just type in the address bar. app.dronelink.com

Agree with everything said by Mike and Martin.  I will add, the comment about IOS 11+ I think means to say, get the most current, modern, capable device possible for the best experience.  We are now at IOS 16.4.something.something depending on day of week.  I just suggest something made in last two years, no matter the model.  This same applies for Android devices as well.  Given that DJI seems to have prioritized Android in it's SDK development, you may even want to just go Android for this.

Create your missions anywhere.  Generally desktop is best, because you may often need right click, full views etc... but I'm sure it can be done from any browser.  The app is just to execute the actual mission and fly the drone.

    Andrew .

I would like to thank you all for your help and advice on this subject. As you might gather I'm a bit of a wally when it comes to mobiles and computers but have been using the mini 2 with the DJI Fly app. on an iPad Air 2 since the mini 2 first became available. I've tried mapping manually and stitching the resultant images manually with mixed results and DroneLink looked like a better alternative. It's opened up a can of worms and exposed my ignorance but again, thanks to each of you for taking the time to answer my queries.
