Download DJI Waypoints in KMZ
Hey guys!
I would like to know if after converting a mapping mission to DJI Waypoints I can download the KMZ in the format accepted by DJI drones that have the waypoints function?
tks

Should be able to download as any other mission.

I believe he means in the DJI Pilot format. Not right now (moving to feature requests). Having said that, is there a reason you prefer to fly there?
Jim, thanks for the reply.
This is exactly what I need.
It's not that I prefer it, but I can use my smart controller with a screen. I've done some tests with other platforms and it worked.
For those who only have the Smart Controller with screen it would be great to have a Dronelink subscription to be able to create their missions.
Which smart controller are you referring to? DL can be installed on most of them (except the DJI RC).
DJI RC
Ya bummer. Is it possible to load an external file onto this device anyway?
Yes Jim, it is possible!
In the DJI Fly app, just create a mission waypoint and save it.
Then in the file explorer, just locate the DJI application installation folder, and there you will find the folder where this waypoint mission is saved. This file is saved in KMZ format (but unfortunately it cannot be opened in google earth).
In this way, just replace this KMZ file with the KMZ file created on other platforms with the same name that was saved.
The good news is that with this it is possible to carry out mapping missions with the Mavic 3 (not the enterprise). I did some tests with my M3 and the results are fantastic, especially for the great battery life and the quality of the camera.
I don't want to retire my Air 2s, much less my Mini 3, but I want to be able to use the DJI RC in some specific situations and also put my M3 to map.
Understood. Could you share one or two examples of the KMZ?
Jim, I'm on the street right now and I'm going to send you two kmz that I have here on my Iphone. I don't remember now if they are from mappings or tests. If it doesn't work, let me know and as soon as I get to the office I'll send others

Hi Jim and doletas,
Is this what you are both talking about?
'Cause I'd love to see Dronelink export a KML file for the RC Pro and Mavic 3.

I ask this, because there are a lot of angry people still petitioning DJI to release an SDK. I just wonder if you guys could be the stop gap?

Hi Steve,
Yes, exactly that.
Looks like a pretty hacky work-around. Why not just use DJI Mission Hub 2 as the video shows?
Hi Jim, how are you?
Jim, I don't think it's "hacky". I think that, if there is the option to fly by waypoints, and there is a tool that can facilitate the creation of these missions, why not use them.
I think hacky would be changing the original DJI code.
Here we are just facilitating something that DJI, when launching the MAVIC 3, promised that it would release the SDK and many people buy this drone model waiting for that day to come.
As our colleague Steve said, "'Cause I'd love to see Dronelink export a KML file for the RC Pro and Mavic 3."
I teach mapping courses in my country, I am always recommending Dronelink to my students and clients precisely because I believe it is the application with the best interface on the market. This alternative to the Mavic 3, in my opinion, would be another great differential for Dronelink in reaching new customers.
Creating a file in DJI Fly and then copying over a new file and naming it the same thing isn’t a hack? 😜
It seems like right now that tool is Mission Hub 2. I appreciate the love for DL and the interface, but the reality is the resulting missions will probably be limited in the same way that legacy DJI waypoint missions are limited due to the lack of underlying feature set. You are saying that even with the limitations, you will still just prefer to use the DL interface (which costs money) vs the free Mission Hub 2?
Each one thinks in a different way. Replacing files with the same name is something so common that even Windows asks you to confirm when it is going to do this.
Mission Hub 2 will be paid for from June of this year, and it doesn't have such a friendly interface in my opinion.
I just want you to understand that I wanted to help Jim, it's okay if the Dronelink team is not willing to help us create mapping missions for our beloved Maivc 3.
Other app companies are already in this race. Take Litchi as an example... it's already quite advanced in that regard, but I don't like the interface either.
This ends up becoming another problem, because if it's a person like me who has several Drone models due to the courses I teach, I have to use several different applications, which is a bit annoying.
Hi Guys,
One thing I've seen DroneLink do, is prepare flights for 3d mapping - which is the thing that the DJIFlight Hub actually can't do at the moment - and this is why I would happily pay for DL to create a mission, then be able to export a valid KML file, and do repeatable agri missions etc.
Yes, you can create missions on the controller, but as you'd know, being able to prepare a mission on the computer before you head out would be awesome...
But, copying a file is a bit clunky. I totally get it. I just wondered if there was a way, that's all. :)
Maybe a better way to say it would be “less than user friendly”. But here we are, this is the situation DJI has created so you gotta do what you gotta do.
Do you know what the pricing will be?
I am not saying we aren’t willing - we are just trying to better understand the situation and competitive landscape. Like the original convert to DJI Waypoints feature for legacy drones, this feature will be non-trivial to implement. In the case of the legacy waypoints, less than 1% of all Dronelink missions are flown this way, despite the fact that there were many vocal users before we created the feature that assured us it was a large minority of people that wanted it. Obviously, in this case there is no other option (virtual stick) so maybe this time will be different.
Does litchi support exporting to the new DJI Pilot format already?
If flight hub adds this feature would you keep using Dronelink anyway?
I agree
Not yet
Not completely. I'm participating in a group that tests the Mavic 3 and it's still not official, however, it's already working well
I don't believe this will be a function available in Flight Hub. The purpose of the DJI platform is different.
Can you provide a link to this group?
I can't Jim,
It is a closed group where only invited guests can join.
Is Litchi producing the converter or is it just a third-party tool?
third-party tool
Jim McAndrew
Have you tried using that? It's horrible!
DJI Mission Hub 2 is the absolute quickest way to a migraine, aneurism, and a nose bleed. All at once. I would not wish the Mission Hub on anyone. And once they finally get it working somewhat, it will be abandoned and on to Mission Hub 3.
I was on a jobsite the other day and a pilot called it Mission Flub. Had a good laugh.
Any updates on this?
Is it now possible to transfer the missions to the dji rc 2?
We are not currently prioritizing this feature.
If anyone has example kmz files they would like to replace on their smart controller, that would help us look into this feature. The google drive link above is no longer working.
Here is a new kmz waypoint file.

any guesses on a ETA?
