Editing plans/ missions (i. e. Drone parameters on the app)

Michael Rapp
I'm looking for a way to edit certain settings "in the field", as they may have not been pilossible in the planning stage. For example, as a standard I set the drone RTH altitude at, say, 300 ft, just to be safe. And I fly down a path with some high trees. As I find out on location, it is a bit gusty, 100 ft RTH would do just fine (fear of high winds in high altitude), and said trees have not been trimmed down so I'd like the path to be shifted by, say, 30 ft away. Also, the camera's white balance has been set to now an unusable value. Now, as Murphy's law will have it, there is no internet connection and the laptop is out of juice. And the client is standing next to you waiting for you to get airborne. Very hypothetical, of course, but it would be really really nice to edit some mission parameters in the field. I also appreciate a heartfelt rtfm! if pointed to the rightful page. Thanks in advance for your time and patience, Mike.

Afterthought: I can load the website on my phone, then edit it in the phone's browser (gets then uploaded to the cloud to be re- downloaded into my phone's dronelink app). That *could* work. If there's an internet connection.

Another thought: is there a way to get a "wildcard" entry for certain mission parameters? (like RTH altitude, color temperature, gimbal pitch/ orientation, maximum airspeed)? So you get to fill in those blank mission parameters just prior to takeoff - imho invaluable for mission fine tuning.

Hi Mike. I use my IPad Mini to create most of my missions with the Web App and fly with the Native App. It’s a WiFi only IPad but if I need to change anything in the field I just turn on Hot Spot on my IPhone 8 and adjust the mission in the Web App. I’ve used mine several times in a very rural Forest area and no WiFi. I Made adjustments and I was off and running. If no WiFi or cellular service then nothing you can do. You only need to use the Hot Spot temporarily to run the Web app and adjust the plan. Once that’s done you don’t need it connected via Hot Spot. The mission will be updated almost immediately and ready in the Native app. Hope this will answer your question.

Most of the parameters set in the DJI App carry over to the Native app. So if you didn’t specify certain automated parameters In the mission then those will be implemented. Example; The camera settings, white balance, RTH etc, will all be whatever the DJI app was set to unless you specifically set a automated command in the plan.

    Good Luck. Mike……….

Dronelink has limited offline support, but the newest beta (2.3.0) does have a history tab in the native app that will allow you to re-fly any recent mission (including ones that were generated from on the fly functions).

Dronelink has this feature: it's called functions (which is how the on-the-fly functions work that were mentioned above). Currently you have to be on a business growth or enterprise account to write your functions (javascript).
