start mission in the air

Johank

When I understand it correctly it is possible to fly to a starting point in the air and start a mission when I reached that point.

When I reached the correct altitude and fly somewhere near the starting point, will it fly to the starting point first and then start the mission ?
And when the mission is completed it will hoover at the altitude of the starting point and I can it bring to the ground manually.

All this to be sure :)

    Hi Johank,

When I understand it correctly it is possible to fly to a starting point in the air and start a mission when I reached that point.

Yes that is correct, although the chance of flying to the exact spot, that the mission is set to start from is probably very slim.

When I reached the correct altitude and fly somewhere near the starting point, will it fly to the starting point first and then start the mission ?

Yes this is also correct, in fact this is what is more likely to be the case in your first scenario, also you don't need to be at the correct altitude as the drone will fly to the correct altitude to start the mission.

You can also start the mission from the ground with stopped motors, as when you hit start mission the drone will start, take off, fly to  a height of about 4 feet, then ascend to the starting altitude of the mission before flying to the start of the mission.

The only time that the mission wont start in the above scenarios is if you are flying an AGL based mission with a takeoff restriction and haven't taken off from within the restriction zone.

And when the mission is completed it will hoover at the altitude of the starting point and I can it bring to the ground manually.

This will depend on your action on finish settings in the mission:

    • None - yes you can do as you describe
    • Return to home - the drone will fly a straight line back to home at the height set for return to home (this is my preferred method)
    • Auto Land - the drone will land at the end point of the mission
