Hyperlapse, Slow-mo and All Mavic 3 cinematic features for Mavic 3E

Jonathan Ley

Hello,

Wanted to ask Dronelink if they can enable features such as  Hyperlapse, Quickshot and Master shots, slow mo and so on to the Mavic 3E?

The Mavic 3E has all the capabilities and more than the regular Mavic 3, but DJI refuses to enable all the features that the Mavic 3E is capable of performing.

I am a Growth plan member, and I have clients that after requesting mapping missions and 3D missions, also add on requests for cinematic shots.

I see of invaluable use being able to make these cinematic shots right after the mapping mission is completed without having to land and deploy another drone just for the cinematic shots, time saving, money saving, etc.

Dronelink, can you please help us out with these features?

Thank you!

Jonathan

For things like master shots you can try the on the fly functions (such as dronie and orbit).

For hyper-lapses, you can plan your own mission with camera settings like this one.

    Hi!

This is good to know thank you very much!

How about features like active track? Slow mo? 5.1K shooting? Quick shots?

I have been using Dronelink to give me AEB functionality with the M3E as well and fill that gap.  I found a AEB component somebody else had created and made a few changes, but works great for me.

    active track

They would have to add that to the SDK so no.

    Slow mo? 5.1K shooting?

You can try adding commands to your mission plan to see what works:

The options in the planner show every possible value for all drones, so not all options are guaranteed to work for all drones.

    Quick shots?

Same answer as master shots, look to the on the fly functions.

I have been using Dronelink to fill many of the gaps in the M3E when compared to their consumer drones.  (Now that DJI is making such a big distinction).

Honestly, the SDK is the only limiting factor and hopefully even that will improve with time, but for me Dronelink is the indispensable component in just about everything I do.

Can you try to see if you can use Dronelink to enable the d-log color profile?  I have a client that absolutely insists on 4k/30fps (or 60fps if possible) and d-log.

That lack of d-log was a deal killer for me, but I would love to get that m4/3 sensor and the extra battery life and if DL can fill that it might make it viable.

    Thanks!

I can give it a try this evening for sure.  I can tell you this, I would not be too hopeful.  So far, have not been able to influence recording options.  But I will give it a proper test this evening.

Least I can do for you! Do you want to creat the missions you want tested? That will save a few cycles!

You shouldn't even need to go outside - it shouldn't take off.  Check it first though ;)

I made you a contributor so that you can change it if you like, and I also did not make the color selection required so that it should run and take two sets of 5 second video even if the color mode doesn't change.

Interested to see the results - maybe you can post them somewhere I can get hold of them.

    Thanks!

This is the official reply from DJI i received today.

    Dear Jonathan,
Thanks for contacting DJI. We are grateful to assist you with your concern.

Hope this email finds you well. We are in public holiday in China. Our workforce is in short. We are under a backlog. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

This is Fuyuan from DJI technical support. First of all, we are very grateful for choosing DJI.

I understand your concerns. We do receive many feedback about adding cinematic functions on Mavic 3E. I also talked to the engineers and product team about this before. However, I was told that, considering the design and development strategy, they want to keep Mavic 3E to do what it designed for, mapping, inspection, and etc. They are not going to add the function like tracking, hyperlapse, POI, and etc. These are the functions existing on the consumer-level drones like Mavic 3 Cine and Classisc, which are the different product line. Because of this, the RC Pro Enterprise can't install DJI Fly app too.

I have also recorded your suggestion and I have forwarded it to the product team. They will evaluate it. But I am afraid to say, there might be no future plan for adding these functions. My apologies.

If you have any idea, comments, or further questions, please do feel free to contact us. We are always here to help. Looking forward to hearing from you again.

    Take care and stay safe!

I had a very similar exchange with them about a month ago.

My suggestion was, fine, keep the M3E for mapping but then release the SDK for the other M3 versions.  They seem to have in their head that anything that isn't mapping isn't "enterprise" and doesn't need an SDK.

They did apologize and offer to send me some props for my I2 for the inconvenience though... (huh?)

We all think that it is just a question of money.
At short term this strategy is the best one (for Dji).
Not sure this makes all of us very happy.

My thoughts exactly.  I blogged about this here:  https://aviosmedia.com/dji-losing-sales/

Bottom line from that "Instead…I’m buying a different drone that will cost about $1,500.

The flight time isn’t as good, the sensor isn’t as good, and it doesn’t have the mechanical shutter.  But none of those things are deal breakers.  The deal breaker is not having the SDK and video capabilities in the same drone.  Something they used to do but now seem to have stopped. "

Agreed Barry Houldsworth - And in my next buying cycle I am going to definitely make the decision based on features and SDK (and compatibility with Dronelink) rather than assuming DJI is continuing on a path of enablement and success.

Glad we could test yesterday even if we did not like the results of no D-Log color profile.

PS: Great article you crafted.  Needs to get circulated to the v-bloggers.

Agreed - maybe some of the people that test the DJI drones could say something.  Seems unlikely though as they would probably be too concerned about being dropped from that early access group.
