Mavic 3 Enterprise Thermal Orbit

WDedic

With the new version of Dronelink, can I set an orbit mode to focus on an area using thermal features.  Basically a Search and Rescue Mode.  I want to set focus on one area and continuously orbit that location while the team is viewing the monitors.

Orbit no problem, thermal features see caveats here.

I have a Mavic 3T and I'm trying to do thermal map missions. When I create the map mission I choose Mavic 3 Enterprise (Thermal) as the camera type. When I run the mission it ends up shooting the whole thing using the wide camera type instead. Is there something other than camera type that needs to be set to make sure it actually uses the thermal camera.

Have you tried switching to the thermal lens before starting the map?

Wow! Thx for the immediate response, Jim!

I have done that during a waypoint mission. Selected the IR camera during the mission and it did not shoot in IR then either. The only IR I have gotten so far using Dronelink is flying manually and choosing the IR camera in-flight. Not to be a pain but why have the selection as part of the map mission setup if it's not going to actually choose the correct camera?

But, to your question. I did not manually select the IR camera before running the mission. What is the correct selection order to make sure I get IR orthos.

It is used to calculate the overlaps based on the lens spec.

Can you just try switching to the thermal lens and then run the map mission right after that?

Ahhh... Calculating overlaps certainly makes sense as well. I hadn't considered that.

I will try selecting thermal immediately before running the map mission and see how that works out. I'll let you know.

And thx again for the quick reply and help. I do love what I've been able to do with Dronelink. Especially in the filed.

Okay, I've tried every way I can think of to select the thermal camera before running the mission. Selected it in DroneLink before hitting the start button. Ran DJI Pilot 2 and selected the the thermal camera, then shut it down and ran DroneLink and started the mission. It shows the thermal camera on the screen in real time but all the images are RGB from the wide angle camera. Anything else I can try?

Thanks Jim. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help with testing.

Could you please explain how you checked the images? When I did some testing with the Mavic 3T I ran Dronelink map missions manually setting the camera to the thermal lens before running the mission, manually captured images in dronelink, and manually captured images in DJI Pilot 2. In all 3 cases the SD card correctly stored both the wide angle camera photos along with the thermal photos.

Sorry if you get this post twice. I think I hit Submit but I don't see my response.

The difference I see here is that I'm using a map mission and capturing the images automatically, for ortho purposes. I suspect if I set the IR camera manually and captured the images manually I would get IR images. But that's not really practical for ortho.

As an example, I just did an IR roof inspection that produced almost 3000 images to be stitched back together. I Just set it all up in DJI Pilot 2. I just really love some of the features in Dronelink and would prefer to use it for all my jobs! :)

    No worries,

Could you post a link to your map mission that I could check out?

I am unable to view a mission when you simply copy the link. Please hit the share option and copy that produced link so I can view it. Thanks!

    Yes that worked, thanks!

I flew your mission this morning. My order of operations were to hit start then switch to thermal while drone was en route to begin the map mission. I pulled the SD card and have verified that both the normal rbg captures and thermal captures were stored correctly.

You mentioned previously during your testing that the screen shows the thermal camera on the screen in real time (mine did also during my tests) but all the images are RGB from the wide angle camera. Are you saying there are no thermal captures on your SD card?

"My order of operations were to hit start then switch to thermal while drone was en route to begin the map mission." I can't say I've tested that exact order of operations. I've tried selecting the IR camera before I start the mission and selecting after the mission was already running and capturing images.

I'm pretty certain there were no IR images on the card at all.

I will test ASAP using your method. I really want this to work because I really like a lot of the other Dronelink features.

Thanks again for all the help!

    Hey Nicolas,

Just tested the IR mapping and your order of operations worked perfectly. Select the IR camera while en route to the map start point and I get IR images.

Thanks for your help. I don't think I would have figured that one out on my own.
