Sounds as though you didn't have it set to RTH, in the case of signal loss in the drones settings, sorry for your loss, can you check with the airdata logs where it went down
Sorry to hear about the drone. As Martin stated it may have been your App settings. By default the DJI Fly app should be set to RTH on disconnect. If it was changed or for some reason to descend or hover then it would either descend and land or just hover until the battery ran down then land. Also depending on the altitude at the time it happened the sensors can get confused when over water and the drone will descend automatically which may have been a possibility. Flying over water is a known issue. What was the altitude ?
Thanks. The altitude was 200ft with RTH also set to 200ft with nothing close to that height around. It was set to RTH automatically (I didn’t change the default) which is why I was surprised it didn’t come back. I usually used to hit manual RTH before it auto-returned, but the auto-RTH did sometimes kick in and it did work up to this mission.
And yes I will check to confirm with the data log in case I am mistaken, thanks again
If disconnected then manually hitting the RTH will not work. All the settings in the DJI app stick across apps so what is set the that app is what DL will use. The RTH state on disconnect, RTH altitude, Max Distance and altitude and so on. All of those settings are stored on the drone so either a setting was incorrect or there may be a drone issue. You can look at the data and see where the last recorded GPS positions was and possibly find it. Although it’s been awhile now. If you use Airdata or some other integration system for your flight logs you can look through a ton of info which may help. Nothings perfect but it should have returned if possible and set correctly. Again, sorry to hear about the lose of drone.
Can you share the plan ? Can’t hurt to have someone take a look.
Opps. I forgot to mention about this issue another pilot had. He is using a MM as well and when it discounted it just hovered and never triggered RTH. He eventually contacted DJI and I believe got another drone based on the logs. Only way he could get the drone to respond was to get closer and have it connect then take control. That’s why I mentioned in my other post about being a drone issue. If it was all set up correct then it is possible. I’d contact DJI and see what they say. Worth a try and I have read several other pilots problems with other drones on a couple groups and DJI came through for them. Good luck.
