What drone(s) are you using?

Tim B

Would be interesting to hear what drone(s) and what Operating System folks here are flying with these days?

First for me was years ago-- one of first DJI offerings. Can't even remember what the model was. From there I had several Solos from the ill-fated 3DR outfit. Managed to unload those and now just have a Mavic Air 2 with Android phone.

There's obviously many options out there other than DJI but don't really know all that much about any of them.

    Drones:

    • Phantom 4 Pro V2
    • Mavic 2 Pro
    • Inspire 2

95% of the time I use an iPad mini 5 for flying with Dronelink, but I also use various Android devices as a backup.  Flying manually I often use a Crystal Sky monitor.

One interesting feature of DL is that it lets you swap the device you are using, even if you are partway through a mission.

As a great case in point, I recently had an all-day shoot that drained the iPad down to just 10%.  Because I was using DL I was able to switch over to using my phone during a battery swap and continue the mission from where I left off.

I don't think any other system lets you do that.

I have a MM and a MA2 which is what I fly 99% of the time. Using an iPad Mini 5 for almost two years with DL.

That's interesting. What steps (in what order) did you take when switching over from your iPad at 10% to the phone?

Very simple.  During the battery swap, you just disconnect the iPad and connect the Phone.  Then open Dronelink on the phone, open the mission and it will allow you to continue from where it was.

This, of course, assumes that you are running with a data connection (I use my phone as a hotspot).  If you are running an offline mission this won't happen.

I would expect it to be something on these lines:

    1. Land the drone and remove it battery
    2. Disconnect ipad from controller
    3. Connect & boot phone
    4. Force close the DJI app (This wouldn't be needed if android)
    5. open Dronelink & Load mission
    6. Turn on Drone & wait for it to connect
    7. Take off continue the mission
