Append one waypoint mission to another.

Paul Waitzman

Is there an option to append a 2nd waypoint plan to an existing plan. I'm fine tuning the final segment of a waypoint mission plan and I would like to append that to the initial segment once I am happy with it.

    YUP - Worked Just Fine.

    Thanks.

Good to hear as it's just one of several ways you could achieve it

Thanks, Martin. I wonder if there is a way to do it so that the new waypoints are appended as an addition to the existing path, not as a new path with a new approach. I couldn't find a tutorial that discusses that.

Any time you add a component it adds the approach. Whether a Path, Orbit, Map etc…. Only way to keep in as one path is to add more waypoints to the current path. Hope that helps.

in that type of situation just drag the second set of waypoints so that their start is over the end of the first set.

Sometimes I'll fly a mapping mission on several different levels with different gimbal pitches, in which case, I create the top layer first, hit duplicate, till I've got the number of layers i want, then using the red eye, go in and make the changes I want (altitude, gimbal pitch etc), and then drag the start marker for the lower layer as close to the end point of the higher layer as i can get, here's an example

Thanks Martin, I'll give that a try. I'm trying to create a video path that has a seamless append between the 1st and 2nd segments.

In that case if there's a distance between first and second segments, I'd do as Mike suggested and add a way point to the end of the first segment and drag that to the start of the second segment

    Right. Will Do.

I'm not totally sure that is going to give you what you need.  When switching between one waypoint path and another the drone tends to pause while it starts the next section.  You can verify that by running a simulation.  It will be close, but it will not be seamless.

Just a suggestion but I sometimes place the next components destination pin directly on top of the last components pin. This way it will slow down and stop briefly but then start the next component without needing to fly an approach to the next destination. Otherwise it will slow at end of fist component then stop, then fly the approach to the next destination and stop then start the component. Not sure if this may help but it will eliminate a lot of the starting and  stopping this way. Hope that makes sense. Good luck.

Thanks. Seems like the easiest way to make it seamless is simply add the additional waypoints to the beginning in the plan once final leg is dialed in.

Ok I've worked this out, and it's seamless from mission start to end, to achieve you need to do several things:

    1. Turn off auto capture in ALL components
    2. create a simple list, and for this example I'm capturing video so my list consists of 3 commands (Camera Stop Capture, Camera Mode - Video, Camera Start Capture)
    3. Set a point of interest in the start  of each plan/component (in the example plan I've created the one for the orbit and from launch is the center of the orbit,
    4. Add a Stop Capture command at the end of the mission

    So in this example mission

https://app.dronelink.com/martin-reading/beta-testing/plan/SchFAsUwGLWDCUclMiO0 on mission start, the drone starts recording video and flies to the start of the orbit above the cricket pitches, while focused on the POI at the center of the orbit, it then flies around the orbit, at the end of the orbit the drone turns to face the  POI on the Tennis courts, and holds this focus as it flies to the start of the Waypoints component.

Sooooo, Never Give Up! I like it.

That should definitely work - use a common POI to transition between segments.

I see 3 Alpha POI's - 1 linked to Orbit Start, 1 linked to Waypoints Start and 1 linked to Waypoint Alpha.

Looks like the seamless transition is accomplished by placing the POI linked to Waypoints Start and POI linked to Waypoint Alpha on top of each other.

But how did you create & link the POI's that are linked to Orbit Start and Waypoints Start? I cannot find a place to do that.

Hi Paul, that's actually quite easy, open the appropriate components settings (for this we'll use the orbit I my plan), at the very top of the settings you'll see a line that says orbit start that has a right facing arrow next to it, click on the arrow, this will take you to the orbit start settings and you can add the poi there

    Very interesting Martin Reading

Adding the POI to the path has it looking at that instead of toward the start of the next element.  Very useful for this type of scenario.

Cheers Barry Houldsworth, yeah it sort of seemed logical to point it towards where it may well start the next section looking at, I was just sort of playing on the laptop seeing what would work, hence the path action that doesn't have anything connected to it, its just got a 350 drone heading to force a clockwise rotation to the next POI
