Dronelink for Education: Classes, Seats and Teachers

  • Created

Dronelink for Education lets a school buy one class account for each course. A class has all Growth features, except commercial use. You pay once for each term, and a class does not renew.

Use a class for teaching, coursework and academic research. Work for school operations, such as facility inspections or campus maps, is commercial use and needs a Professional plan. Learn more about commercial use.

Get Started

Select Contact Us on the Education card at app.dronelink.com/pricing. We set up an organization account for your school. Tell us your school's name, the login email of the person who will own the account, and the short URL key you want, such as state-university. New classes use that key at the start of their URLs. To add more organization admins, use Members in the organization's account settings.

The organization account is only for buying and managing classes. It cannot fly missions. It lists your classes, and you can search them and filter them by Active and Ended.

Buy a Class

  1. Open your organization account.
  2. Select New class.
  3. Enter the class name. You can change the URL key that we suggest.
  4. Choose the term end date. The class ends at the end of that day in your time zone. A term can be up to 12 months.
  5. Enter the number of seats, from 5 to 200.
  6. Select Continue, and pay at Stripe Checkout.

There are two prices: one for a term of up to 6 months, and one for up to 12 months. Dronelink uses the lower price that covers your term. You can see both on the pricing page.

The person who buys the class is its owner. You buy classes on the web, not in the mobile app. Each purchase has an invoice. Learn more about receipts and invoices.

If you pay from a bank account, the class appears when the payment clears. This can take a few days.

For a volume discount, or for invoice billing on a large account, contact support@dronelink.com.

How Seats Work

A seat is one person in the class, whatever their role. Each class also has 2 free seats, for the owner and the first teacher. A class with 5 seats holds 7 people.

  • An extra teacher takes a seat.
  • An open invitation holds a seat in Members until someone accepts it or you remove it.
  • When you remove someone, their seat is free for another person.
  • You cannot reduce the number of seats.

Add Seats

  • Class owner or teacher: open the class, then Account Settings, then Members. Choose a higher number in Seats.
  • Organization owner or admin: in the organization's class list, open the menu on the class and select Add seats.

Check the number of seats to add, select Continue, and pay at Stripe Checkout. The person who adds the seats pays for them. Added seats have no partial price: with 6 months or less left in the term they cost the 6-month price, and otherwise the 12-month price. The term end date does not change.

Invite a Teacher and Students

Each person needs their own Dronelink login, and each invitation is for one person. You send one invitation for each student. Send Email opens your own email app with the link in it.

To invite the first teacher, the class owner opens the menu on the class in the organization's list and selects Invite teacher.

To invite anyone else:

  1. Open the class, then Account Settings, then Members.
  2. Select Invite, then New Teacher or New Student. In a full class, the button is New Member, and it asks you to add seats first.
  3. Send the invitation by email, or copy the direct link.

Every member of a class can edit every plan in it. An organization admin who is not a member of a class sees only its public profile. To work in a class, they join it, which takes a seat.

A student who also has a personal Dronelink account chooses the class in the app's account list before flying. Learn more about multiple accounts.

When a Term Ends

Up to 7 days before the term end, we email the class owner, the teachers and the organization owner and admins, at verified email addresses. Students get no email, so tell them when the class ends.

At the term end:

  • The class no longer shows in the mobile app, and members see no message there.
  • The class shows under Ended in the organization's list.
  • Plans and missions stay in the class. Members can open plans read-only on the web, and copy them into an active account that they belong to. Flights no longer show in the class.

You cannot restart an ended class yourself. To teach the course again, an organization owner or admin selects New term on the ended class. This buys a new class, and it starts with the same name and number of seats. You choose the new term end date. Members and plans do not move to it, so invite the members again. To copy plans, join the new class first.

To extend a class, contact support@dronelink.com before or after the term end.

Refunds

You can request one refund up to 14 days after a purchase at dronelink.com/refund. This covers a class and added seats. A refunded class ends. On the form, choose "Other / not sure". If the class also bought added seats, our team reviews it first.
